Gender Balance at workplace

So it seems a lot of attention is being paid to this nowadays. Large corporation and even government institutions hopping on the bandwagon.

The question is, does it provide any tangible/quantifiable benefit to the organization or improvement in its efficiency?

Shouldn’t staffing be on merit and skills? Why hire people just because of their gender - when you know they aren’t bringing in additional improvement?

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

I don’t think gender equality mean hiring more women. I think it means treating people for they’re qualification regardless of gender. Women in the USA make 0.70 to ever 1.00 a man of equal qualifications makes.

Ex #2](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=2) - women leave to pick up kids reaction is often “oh women always have other resposibilities, they aren’t 100% dedicated to the job”

Man leaves to pick up kids -" what a great dad, so involved in his kids’ lives"

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

So very, very true!

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

You have made my morning :k:

Just throwing it out there, this isn’t an attack on anyone, but Its about time companies started paying attention to this.

I have seen my mom work her butt off all her life; in her professional career and at home, she also says time to time that there ‘has’ been gender difference at her workplaces (she is in the IT professional for the past 19 yrs) obviously it was much noticeable in the early to mid 90s, but slowly change is happening but we need a more accepting attitude towards women and equally to the ‘qualified’ candidate despite gender

Really close friend of mine (female) works in the automotive industry and she says it ain’t so, still the ratio man vs woman is way higher … Boooo :nook:

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

That’s actually not true. It has been debunked repeatedly but continues to prevail because it’s a political talking point. The rest I agree with.

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

^^ How is it not true? source me. I’d love to know if I’m wrong.

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

Is it really the companies that need to make a change and start paying attention or just general societal opinion?
Afterall…who runs the companies?

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

Ideally we’d have a genderless society.

But truth of the matter is - we do need longer maternity leaves vs paternity and employers need to build that into they’re processes.

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

@Muzna

Do we really wanna go there. Uncles here are pumped up and ready to ‘reprimand’ you and I both in one shot.

Wait let me flip the roti on the tava first before I bother my pretty little head with this ‘nonsense’

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

Please focus on roti and tava. Don’t multi task.

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

These days I’m alone in my lab so I strongly demand gender balance at workplace!

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

Ahh yes that multitasking, I am also rolling my eyes :hehe:

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

what is this multi-task you speak of?

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

Those stats are correct when viewed in the aggregate. When stratified the gap drops to about 5 cents, which merits further investigation but a report by the US Department of Labor actually mentions that it may be something that requires no correction from a policy point of view.

Here’s the report:

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

ahan, that’s why google wants to hire more females than male.
and not our fault ladies don’t negotiate salaries well.

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

Your wrong. Hiring more women doesn’t mean employing any random woman you see on the street just because she’s a woman. It means that from lets say a choice of two equally skilled, educated and experienced candidates but where one is a man and the other a woman, companies are more likely to employ the woman.

Call it positive discrimination if you wish.

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

I don’t like how you’re coming at it… but I agree, I don’t think we should shy away from being more aggressive.
man aggressive = assertive
woman aggressive = b!tch

But hey so what - I’ll be a b!tch if it means gender equality for my daughter.

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

what are you on about?

Re: Gender Balance at workplace

Society views the same attributes in both genders in very skewed ways?
