Adam and Steve have a pretty lush life at Harbin Polar Land in northern China. While zookeepers at the Toronto Zoo were quick to separate their “gay” penguin couple for mating purposes, keepers at Harbin Polar Land embraced their eccentric penguins by not only giving them a same-sex wedding ceremony worthy of Leslie Knope, but also providing them with their very own baby chick to care for.
Adam and Steve had a history of stealing eggs from other more traditional couples during hatching season. So when keepers noticed a mother of recently hatched twins struggling with her parenting duties, they decided to give Adam and Steve the baby they were looking for. While it might seem, well, different for a penguin chick to have two male parents, in fact, all penguins are known to have natural instincts for parenting, as males and females equally share in the responsibility to incubate and care for their chicks, before and after they’re born. For this reason, keepers at Harbin Polar Land are confident that Adam and Steve’s chick will grow up to be just like its penguin peers.

Erm thats kinda strange but whatever rocks their boat, eh? =D
I wonder how a penguin would be declared to be lacking parenting duties. hmm. But yeah I did know that female penguin lays the egg and then the male partner looks after it till it hatches. The female partner rests in the mean time or something. Making both of them involved in the process.
I saw some questionable parenting skills on Frozen Planet a few weeks back, both the mammy and daddy went to get fish and just left the poor nittle furry chick, so some of the other mammy penguins tried to steal the nittle furry chick cos their chicks dies during the winter. :(
I stand by my words ' it's cute, yet a little creepy too.'
Why? Well, first, to dress up wild animals in a bride/ groom outfit and give them a marriage ceremony is creepy. Because you know, animals don't have marriage ceremonies only humans do. Second, "Adam and Steve had a history of stealing eggs from other more traditional couples during hatching season," the zoo labeling them gay is so funny/ weird/ creepy because ermmm since when are animals gay?
So I call it 'creepy' because it's not your usual animal story, but hey it's still cute and touching!
They are not gay. Some gay activists have this mental _____ about them being gay…
“Penguins are not gay, despite new evidence of homosexual behaviour in the wild, they are just “same sex flirting” until they find a mate, according to a new study.”
"Professor F Stephen Dobson, one of the authors of the study published in the journal Ethology, said the number of same sex pairs was actually lower than expected. **When the colony was studied over time he found all the ‘gay’ penguins chose a heterosexual partner. A female pair also ‘split up’ to raise an egg with male partner. "

I say give them female penguins. That’s animal cruelty if not.
Since you seem to know so much why don't you chip in?
Why is this all so serious to you? It's just an animal story.
If I was knowledgeable, I would chime in. My limited knowledge is that in the animal kingdom, gay behavior is known to exist. I just wanted to know the context in which you used the word creepy. From your response, it appears at least part of the reason for use of this word was associated with same sex relationship.
Considering the hatred and prejudice that is evident in other sub-forums here against this behavior, I was disappointed to see the use of such language in the Science forum. Yes, it is serious to me that we choouse our words carefully when it comes to such topics. IMO, the attitude is more about just being an animal story.
Creepy, IMO, is not the best choice to describe this complex issue, especially considering the foaming at the mouth hatred shown against this behavior in this own forum elsewhere.
I will not belabor this anymore - just chipping in per OP’s suggestion.
Awww, how cute. And nuh uhh, aint nothing creepy about it at all. And as if animals don’t feel the hate they’re being fed with for no reason. The pain/gheebat is mutual earthling. Hush.
I LOVE Penguins! They be the sweetest little creatures (to the eye and otherwise) in the whole wide world.

According to that school of thought, I bet you wouldn't miss a beat admitting little girls getting barbies hitched would come across as "creepy" to you as well?. Which according to the general consensus is anything but "it"
And Southie, I seem to be a ‘social conservative.’ I really don’t think animals can be gay. Sorry. And when I used the word ‘creepy’ it doesn’t mean that I think gays are creepy, just labeling animals as that is quite unnecessary. Thats all.
