What if all the animals become homosexuals and perish themselves from the earth? Would you still let them “live” and perish or would you force them to reproduce and to be not homosexuals?
I do google translate cut and paste - just for Hattori san.
You are correct. Arguing endlessly not very wise. At the same token, when abhorrent views are expressed, the silent majority is society’s worst enemy. We should all speak up against the voices of hate.
Just an observation here…
Reading through this thread, I get the feeling that the Indians on this thread seem to be more accepting of alternate lifestyles, and do not have major issues with homosexuality than the Pakistani’s (barring a few).
Is this indicator of yet another difference between us?
Homosexuality is regarded as a sex act, not a s a badge of “peoplehood”, in Islam. Thus, the standard punishments apply (given that there is no sex within wedlock for homosexuals).
There is a hadith that states that those participating in sodomy are to be killed, but I’ve always seen that in the context of the above (i.e. if they are committing adultery).
From the point of view of biology and reproduction, homosexuality seems like a pretty severe dysfunction. Sexuality is, however, conflated with how we socialize. Homosexuality in the western world is much less about sex than it is about identity, and so the rhetoric of rights is what dominates the discourse around homosexuals. Consequently, such biological arguments don’t gain much traction…aside from traditional Catholic doctrine, I don’t think the idea of marriage for procreation holds much currency now days.
This doesn’t hold true for Pakistan or most Muslim societies, so the argument is probably valid in those contexts. I just don’t see how there can be any meeting of minds on this point.
Being friends with a homosexual person is no different for me than being friends with someone who does not believe in what I do which pretty much makes up my entire friend circle. Some people may also be horrified at the thought of being friends with a “kaafir”. I don’t see the harm in a bit of humanity and kindness. I’m not exactly going to go for poojas with my Sikh friends but if they can send me wishes and gifts on Eid then why can’t I show them the same respect?
