I was listening to NPR the other day and they had a lady caller whose whole family (brother, father, uncle etc) had be working for GM for decades and she said she used to buy GM but for past 8 years she has been buying Japanese cars. She told her family that it just won’t do…the American cars will require fixing up even after 3 years while she’s been driving a Japanese car for past 5 years and did not have to take it to the auto shop for anything other than regular maintenance.

I vouch to that story. Last time I had to spend big money on my car was to replace the timing belt (which was, btw, a maintenance work not something that was broken) + major tune up. That was over two years ago. Nothing since then. The only thing that has ever broken in my car for past 8 years of ownership is the muffler which cost me around $300 couple of years ago. Show me an American car that will cost you only $300 in fix-ups in 8 years! :halo:

Roman, Yoru first problem is that you were listening to NPR. Biased, left wing, melodramatic news. Anyway, when was the last time you owned an American car? What is that I hear? Did you say never? OK. I have owned both American and Japanese cars and I can tell you that there really is not much of a difference in repair costs. As far as your repairs question, I own a Chevy Suburan 2002 (bought in Oct 2001), did not have a single problem yet…other than regular maintenance.

Kaleem, I owned an American car back in 93…for about 3 months after which it started giving me problems. I’ve owned Japanese cars of same age twice and never had the problem.

Come back talk to me in 2009 about your Chevy Suburban. By that time my Honda Civic will be 10 years old without any trouble and then I’ll tell you come back in 2011

The cheapest decent gas price I could find was 2.99 here :( It's terrible!!!!!!!

I don't work for FORD, where as you seem to be still sulking from the time you spent with them....

JD power rankings for 1 car don't change the way they (big 3) do business and what quality they ship out to their customers.

America needs to rid themselves of the dependence on foreign oil, err...of domestic oil companies...who are raking it in by the billions even though the Oil price is stable in the international markets...
