Turkmenistan –Afghanistan – Pakistan- India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. Experts from the four countries will meet in Turkmenistan’s capital on April 17-18 to discuss the $4 billion pipeline’s route and the volume of gas that Turkmenistan can supply to India and Pakistan.
The upcoming meeting will specify allocation and requirements for gas in the recipient countries through the pipeline which will stretch over 1,600 km from Turkmenistan’s southeastern Daulatabad gas field to the Indian city of Bikaner via Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Well these lines are good idea but they cannot happen as long as the region is unstable.
Pakistani civilians and the military should be ready and willing to go help Afghanis to bring peace, and then such projects will work.
So far the guarantee for stability in Afghanistan is coming only because of NATO and US jawans and officers. And thus not available in the longer terms.
A better project has been neglected by India which was getting gas from Iran which didn't involve volatile Afghanistan, thru that project India could've had gas from Iran via Pakistan (Baluchistan border) but I just heard news today that pact has been signed between Iran and Pakistan only (India is not party to the project anymore), this project was initiated in 1995 and materialized only now (minus one party). Why should gas coming from Turkmenistan via Afghanistan be any cheaper/feasible??
If anyone thinks that India is going to go for this project, then i must say either Indians are stupid ( declining a better deal) or the person who thinks that this will materialize is living in fools paradise... it is again waste of time and money...
Actually India got the US nuclear deal so they abandoned Iran. Like always. They basically got bribed by the US.
Yes I heard about the deal but does the deal actually took place? I mean if was Bush who started and then there was some HURDLE as usual and then just talks..( apart from newspapers and hand shaked) as what i understand is, USA is least interested in the development of its New Friend, all they are interested is to use it against CHINA etc... so giving India Civil Nuclear Technology was just a something to keep India away from the deal which could have brought some peace in the region... and as you know that if the region is peaceful who is going to but weapons and other defense equipment worth billions of dollars...

The biggest stumbling block are not Indian and Pakistan not cooperating. To the contrary, it is Iran that is the main issue here. Iran insists on a prepayment for the supplies, which are above prevailing market prices, and the payment would be taken whether the supplies are delivered or not. Secondly, the supply would be a lean supply, and would not contain any petrochemicals. Again something that overvalues the gas.
The cost of the pipeline has to be eaten by India and Pakistan. Both countries see the instability in Iran as counterproductive to their respective economies.
India is very keen to move forward with any sort of economic deal with Pakistan, hence this proposed pipeline.

US wants India to give competition to China....same way China is supporting Pakistan against India.....Lets say if hypothetically China manages to break India to pieces, then what do you think, will be Pak-China relationship???? All the Paki-Chini friendship will end and Chinkus will be after Pakistan then.

Well, I idea is to do trade despite having the mistrust. Just like India and China are doing trade worth billions of dollars.

Back on topic. The TAPI pipeline will never work. India will not accept Pakistan having the right to shut off its energy sources in the event of anything really. It could be possible to use Pakistan and Afghanistan as an energy corridor to China though.

its the parliament of India that is stopping the Nuclear deal....Lok Sabha has still not allowed the govt to go ahead with the Nuclear deal....PM will again be presenting the case before the representatives of citizens of India in Lok Sabha

Its common sense. Economic cooperation with Iran for example brings us closer to the Iranians... India misses out.
Every country looks to out do its neighbors. India cringes at the very thought of any country meddling in places like Nepal or Sri Lanka which India consider within its sphere of influence...
