Im afraid we are not going to learn any lesson from this horrific tragedy, biggest in the history of Pakistan.
this guy on this show was saying there are many factories in Karachi which are in awful conditions, cracked walls, no proper safety plan etc. but who will do inspection of these factories, they are busy looting left, right and center, they dont care.
he rightly said, if a PM can be shown the door, why not CM of Sindh? why did he not let the guy carry on with the inspection of these factories? he played with innocent lives. he's a criminal and should be punished, including others who are responsible for this incident.
**I am talking about income tax not sales tax. I have used exactly the words that guy used. I don't live in Pakistan and left Pakistan for a long period of time. Don't consider me as average paki liar here. It is tendency of almost 99% of paki businessmen to evade income taxes, Don't pretend that majority of paki businessmen are honest and pay all their taxes to government.
The more you are trying to be an expert on the subject, the more you are exposing yourself as an illiterate in business affairs. Presumptive tax deducted at source is Income Tax. Sales Tax or any other local taxes on exportable commodities are not applicable on export goods and all these taxes are refunded every where in the world.
Tax deducted at source are final discharge ofIncome Tax liability as per prevailing laws in Pakistan for an exporting concern.
I suggest you to keep quiet on the matters where you have no clue what you are talking about. I don't know what kind of people you meet or fabricate stories about exporting business concerns..
Over here on GS and among people in Karachi too I am seeing people actually defending the owner and blaming everything on bhatta maafia. Whatever the cause may be short circuit , boiler pressure vessel explosion or any foul play the owners / top management of the factory should have taken proper measures for fire protection/exit system in the factory and should have made proper plans to deal with any such calamity.
If any body is a memon or whatever does not automatically make that person an angel these people have made billions out of their businesses and a little expenditure on fire protection system wouldn't hurt them.
I been to the place myself - And I totally agree with the statement ' that we are a tamash been qoum ' - I mean literally there were many people around that factory and instead of helping the rescue teams or at least letting them do their work - they were all busy in shooting their videos from their mobile camera - later many of such video get uploaded on social media sites .
Another point of concern was the arrival of Govt officials , politicians with all their taam jaham AKA protocol - every one was arriving with dozen of guards and when they arrived the whole area was almost sealed you know ..
now picture this - there is only one exit road around that factory ... and when the area was sealed for these bloody politicians' security - even Ambulances had no choice but to wait ..... so even if they have found some one alive during those moments , he/she would have died lying in an ambulance , waiting for road clearance ..

Why blame this single factory owner in Pakistan when not a single building in Pakistan except for some five star hotels and large bank head quarters are fitted with appropriate fire fighting equipment like smoke detectors and sprinkles. Even these five star hotel and bank head quarters have closed most of the exit points for security concerns and mostly maintain only on entry/exit point. Just imagine if this exit point is blocked in case of fire everyone inside the building will be practically stranded.
As far as memons are concerned.. there contribution to our national economy is commendable. They have generated huge business and employment opportunities in Pakistan. I have utmost respect for garment exporters as they generate a lot of employment under very challenging environment where buyers hesitate to come to Pakistan.
Please in our ritual of bashing legal business in Pakistan.. let's not forget the ground realities of our country..
Making garments and plastic products in the same enclosed area is a bad idea , especially if there is only one exit which is also the entrance.
I think the owners are not to be blamed entirely. when i see the videos of this fire, i havent seen Shift Managers coordinating the rescue work, i dont see higher ups from the management on the scene, no factory security personals, i dont see big govt officials on the scene managing things. It seems like bystanders, survivors and relatives of the workers were the only one helping . everyone looks clueless and is doing what they think is best , no one seems to be incharge.
Higher staff knew that they were at fault, they ran away as soon as it all started, possibly fleeing before warning others. No wonder all we hear is workers dieing, for staff this big you need huge administration and security which obviously was unhurt.
If this fire was gonna happen anyways, and had they warned people and asked them to escape in coordinated order, had some one been incharge, had someone with half a brain rammed a truck or something on other side of the factory to create an exit then human loss would be only handful. its non smartness also that has cost us so many lives

You are ignoring what I am saying. 99% of Paki businessmen pay no income taxes. The way that guy behaved and said was not stupid to say what I have written. I don't care what the system in Pakistan is used in paying taxes. They don't pay taxes. Again don't pretend to advocate of tax evaders in Pakistan. Had Pakistani business paid their taxes, perhaps Pakistan would have been in better shape.

We are blaming the single factory owner because some 300+ people have died in this tragic incident. Just let me put things in a very simple way , all these factories are insured and insurance requires risk inspection either by an authorised surveyor or by in house risk inspection officer and they do communicate the flaws and suggest fire safety measures BUT many a times that remains just on papers. However ,many of the responsible industrial units do take a note of suggestions and take necessary measures and ultimately benefit from it.
In this case the factory is insured and most likely the basic requirement/ precautionary measures were ignored.
Every person deserves to be respected whether a business man , a commoner , rick or poor or a memon. Memons are no way superior to any other community. Therefore , I strongly believe that the factory owners can not be just discharged of their mistakes (wilful or unintentional) just because they belong to a particular sect.
yes, its only a matter of days before our media and people return to life as usual and indulge once again in political wrestling matches, celebrity gossips and fashions shows.
Why are there no protests against these slave masters? Why isn’t there an expressive emotive drive to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice? Why is it always "the West" that is the subject of anger demonstrations? If the worst factory disaster in the world does not spur social action, then I don't know what would !! We are indeed a dead nation and our indifference towards loss of human life is a major culprit in the current state of affairs.

Obviously nobody is suggesting that someone should be spared just because that person belongs to a particular community.
Unfortunately this incident broke out in this particular factory. If it would have occurred in any other building in Pakistan I am afraid results would not have been different..
Did you think about the reason why every building whether it is industrial, residential, commercial, or official looks like a jail with grilled windows and single exit point???

You are the one who claimed that you met an exporter of garments from Pakistan who claims to be a tax evader.. either the person you met was not a garment exporter or you fabricated the story. I don't think anyone engaged in export business from Pakistan will say that he is an income tax evader because his tax is already deducted at source.
P.S. You specifically mentioned garment exporter.. who claims to be a tax evader..!!!

I agree with you with regards to having only one entrance and exit in the building due to security reasons, but shouldnt big buildings like these have emergency exits (which can be closed normally and used in case of problems), emergency alarms, and educating the staff as to what needs to be done in case of emergency?

Unfortunately the industrial units in our country are in such a way that there are so many different departments working in a single building and on different floor , it's a deadly recipe.
The obvious reason for having a single entry or exit point is security issue.
Unfortunately the basic of our country are as such right now that in order to protect one thing we compromise on other and in this case a very very heavy price has been paid by the workers of the garment factory.

you know in so many building out here the fire exits are locked so God forbid there is a fire you first search for key and offcourse that would not be easy considering the stress and fear that people may experience at that time.

Never thought about this before, most of my career I have worked in a building having 5 floors and one exit (on the ground floor), I am now thinking about what the situation can be if an emergency happens there (Allah forbid) no health and safety mechanism in place.
