How pathetic and small minded. Getting the issue out in the open, getting international pressure is the only way to get the Pak authorities to do something about it.
The attitude of ‘Don’t tell people what actually happens in Pakistan’ is small minded, backwards, and stupid.
I agree. Hiding Pakistan's problems no matter how small or big they may be, is not the way to deal with them.
You can already see that ever since Ms Mai exposed her rapists, more and more women in Pakistan are speaking out about their own experiences of being raped. She's clearly an inspiration to them, I think she needs a lot more publicity especially within Pakistan so that more women can hear of her and what she has done.
Ms Mai is a walking, talking action step against rape
I mentioned first do what is right first RD. Did you read my post? No mone has right to poke into any country’s social matter. There are many many and I say again many social problems in many countries. No one has right to dictate their opinion to a country from outside. Its like encouraging the person who has bad mouth.
Take it or leave it its just not right for anyone to give awards to a foreigner like this.
Again, the social problems must be corrected by ANY country inside the framework of that country’s administration.
she gets an award becuz she dared to speak out against sucky hudood laws and the F*ed up system......yes american and british women get raped too but whats your point? i bet that if an american woman was openly gang raped (for the reasons that she was) she wouldnt have to go through that much to win her case and bring the perpetrators to justice. more power to Mukhtaran mai...it takes GUTS to do that. and what is your problem if they give her $$$ for a good cause?
guy1 the biggest loser award has been set aside only for you.
first read her issue then comment on it. she dared to speak out against the atrocity carried out against her in name of ‘jirga/panchayat’ justice system not Pakistan’s justice system.
There is no need to stop her, if anyone wants to award her for being brave let them, it does not mean that she is saying all women are raped in our country nor she means that our country is pervert. She is merely exposing what happens in rural areas where police obeys the landlord/wadera/jagirdars.
and? isnt the pakistani justice system responsible for bringing the waderas etc to justice? arent they responsible for enforcing the law in such a case where the panchayat’s ruling is clearly messed up?
C this is why pakis r in such deep shiit... anyone tries to getjustice, they're accused of badnaam-ing their country. i spoke before on this issue... the source of the article happens to be a Indian newspaper and... aghh this just pisses me off.
hudood laws are to generally be blamed for a dozen other rape cases similar to mukhtar mai…since the who provision of providing 4 pious men as witness kinda makes it hard to prove a woman was raped dont u think?
whats the problem? various pakistani newspapers and sites have also spoken against the pakistani system for Mai’s case. why is it that just becuz its from an indian site, we should not discuss it?
i have a feeling it has more to do with the fact that she is a woman and it just bugs alot of men that a paki woman is getting a glamour award as a role model....
damn it she should be sitting in a secluded room living a life of shame and isolation, shunned by society, instead of blabbing away all those gory details of what happened to her.....

Rather, I think people complain that she’s being used to defame Pakistan as a whole (not just the ineptness of the ruiling class)…and quite frankly, that is the trend of some of these NGOs…
Whatever…she deserves the recognition.
What gets me, though, is that she’s getting an award from Bill Clinton…and a Glamour award no less. Pfft… former award winners? Freaking Madaline Albright and Hilary Clinton…oh whatever…
I admire her because she’s highlighting the plight of the earth quake victims…i.e. she’s not talking about herself. That’s class…
Of course, those who brought her in could give a rat’s a$$ about the earthquake victims…
i think ptv should telecast this "award ceremony" live so we can enjoy the moments when she will win the award for the best actress for the drama "ya sheikh apni apni dekh"..she is nothing but a drama created by ngo,s...
