Chappell points a finger
Sensational television footage today captured Greg Chappell, India’s coach, making an obscene finger gesture to a crowd of protestors while boarding the team bus in Kolkata. It is not clear what the exact nature of the provocation was.

Preceding the one-dayer at Kolkata, where India were obliterated by South Africa, there had been considerable public demonstrations against the exclusion of former captain and local favourite Sourav Ganguly from the team. On Thursday Ganguly was included in the Test squad to play Sri Lanka at Chennai, starting on December 2, though reports from today’s match indicate that it wasn’t enough to placate a boisterous Eden Gardens crowd.

Neither Chappell nor the BCCI has yet commented on the incident. However, a number of television channels replayed the incident through the evening.

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

spot on … he was on a high after some wins by India and Gangu’s part time departure … he has dug a deep hole for him self not only for now but also for the future if Gangu can stage a comeback

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

wow and this guy calls himself a coach!!! they are suppose to be role model, ppl who inspire and motivate.
So far what he has done is brought trouble and shuffling players like they are a card of deck (not referring to Ganguly only)

bad incident!!!! and worst of all it was in India
10 bucks!!! the Indian management wont itch on it.

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

What's with cricketers? First Afridi doing his magic with his feet and now this guy showing fingers to Indian public and that too on TV. koi haal nai.

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

what!!! I am shocked. what example for young people ...chappal must be sent home...no place for such people

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

i think ur indian im not sure? what would you suggest for the board to do?

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

Jazba_Pk Bhai,

Answer to your First Question, Yes I am a Proud Indian Muslim!!

Answer to the Second Part is complicated, but if I had my say I would Demand a PUBLIC APOLOGY, Rahi Board ki baat, believe me in that sector we are as corrupt and politically influenced as you folks are, so that really is unpredictable, hell for all you know the BCCI might even praise him for it.!!!

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

Wonder if someone in the crowed had said something bad to Chappell while boarding the bus?

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

For all those criticizing chappell, let's see you guys post on this BB without resorting to name calling when everyone is calling you names.. I don't deny that it was wrong, but who knows what caused him to snap?

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

We know how hostile the Calcutta crowd is, and than you can multiply that by 100 considering that they were pissed off at Indian management including Chappell because gangu was missing. On top of that they were beaten in a most embarrasing way possible in an ODI. I was reading this article and could actually visualize whats written in it

http://us.rediff.com/cricket/2005/nov/25kolkata.htm

Now we can imagine that this nasty crowd can be verbally abusive as well when they see chappell in front of them. So it is possible that chappell who was already frustrated showed his middle finger “in the heat of the moment” .
However being the coach of the national side there is no justifcation of his gesture.

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

Chappel is arrogant idiot and the Indian Board treating him like Bhagwan doesn't help.

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

Chappel needs chappal!

Re: G. Chappell to Kolkata

Not only is he doing things like this, he is also ruining the Indian team by making changes in every freakin' match and experimenting like the Indian team is his personal puppet! He calls such experiments "strategies", but I don't think it is helping the players in the team settle too much.
