Shameful what Chappel Did... he is known for such behavior... remember underarm bowling..
Though the way whole Bengal has been behaving since Saurav was pushed out of team sickened me almost against whole cricketing community in Bengal..
Chappel need to aplogies for his behavior, or come with a excuse soon...
I dont know wheather Chappel knew that there is a television crew around. The official explanation is that he had a damaged fingure. :D.:p. But whatever, that was not a smart thing to do in culcutta.
Besides I have a few words for the culcuttans.. They are such an idiots. They were cheering for every indian wicket. Such an ass holes. For them Dada is everything. The bong spirit. Bull crap. He is gone and good riddence.
BCCI should ban culcutta from hoisting any matches and reprimand Chappel severely. But I am very sure that this BCCi will do neither. They dont have the spine to do it.
I dont like the bongs.
damn man i cant believe chappel is now denying this, if woolmer was to ever give the finger to pakistanis like that i would b pissed! really pissed! where are the voluntary judges for pakistan cricket who seem to be of indian disscent? (some1, balance) where are these guys who jump to n e oppportunity to bash pak, im really waiting for their amazing opinions! I think the ICC should also take action againt him!
I did not make any angry gestures, says Chappell
Greg Chappell, India’s coach, has “vehemently denied” making any obscene gestures at the crowd, as has been suggested in media reports. A clip has been aired on several television channels showing a hand with the middle finger upright and all other fingers folded. This incident took place before India’s one-dayer against South Africa at Kolkata.
“I vehemently deny making any gesture towards anybody. I did not :nono: gesture either towards the media or to the public” Chappell told Cricinfo after the team reached Mumbai. “I have not seen the pictures clearly, but from what I have seen an image has been captured through a window. I don’t keep track of every movement of mine :rotfl: , but I certainly know I did not make any angry gestures towards the public,” he said.
However, Chappell did not go so far to suggest the hand was someone else’s and not his. “I’m not saying that the hand that was shown was not mine,” said Chappell. “But even if it was, what is being shown is a mischievous and malicious interpretation of what happened.” :konfused:
This comes in the wake of the Indian team being treated to boos and jeers as they slid to a 10-wicket defeat. Through the course of the match, and especially in the second innings when an Indian defeat looked imminent, the restive crowd turned on the home team, cheering with great gusto every time a boundary was hit by South Africa:dhimpak:. Even when the post-match ceremony was on the crowds booed Rahul Dravid, Chappell and some sections even went after Sachin Tendulkar, who registered a low score in the match.
Yesterday, when confronted by the media in Kolkata, M Baladitya, the medi a manager, put a different spin on the whole issue. "I have spoken to Chappell. He told me that while giving fielding practice to the players, he injured a finger. He was only attending to the finger in the team bus, :hehe: " Baladitya told the media.
Another example of BCCI giving in to Chappel. Instead of forcing an apology the guy gets away with ludicrous explanations about injured finger. Videos do not lie! Man looks like Chappel has really got Indian cricket by the balls.
what is more surprising is the fact that my paki bretherens have seem to take this finger incident as a personal insult to themselves. Reading some of y'alls posts, one wouldn't be totally incorrect in assuming most people in this thread are indians.
just like the indians on this forum who give their opinions whole heartedly about issues of concern to pakistan cricket or even other pakistan issues, we have a right to give our opinion on indian cricket, because this is khail khilar! seems like the way u took our opinion 1 wouldnt b wrong if he assumed u were indian!
Kolkata, Nov 27: Indian cricket coach Greg Chappell has admitted to making the obscene finger gesture to a crowd of fans here, even as the team management claimed otherwise.
“Yes, I did,” Chappell was quoted as saying by an English newspaper The Telegraph from Kolkata Sunday.
When asked if the gesture was aimed at the crowd, he said: “I do not think I need to specify the reason to you.”
Chappell’s own admission of the middle finger act came after the Indian team’s media manager Wing Commander M. Baladitya Saturday tried to put a lid on the controversy saying Chappell was attending to his hurt middle finger after a practice session ahead of the fourth one-dayer against South Africa here Friday.
Chappell said the footage, first captured by a local production house of a sports capsule and later sold to mainline news channels, was not doctored.
He also termed the behaviour of the Kolkata crowd as “bizzare”.
The cricket fans and cricketing community of West Bengal were livid over the Chappell act since Friday when the footage was shown on television channels.
Since Friday night, Baladitya had been maintaining that “Greg had hurt his finger in the field during a practice session on Thursday and he was tending it while boarding the bus.”
“Greg did not make any obscene gesture at the crowd and the incident has been blown out of proportion,” Baladitya had said.
The controversial TV footage showed Greg Chappell “sticking his middle finger out” to Chappell-booing fans of Sourav Ganguly shouting the name of the former captain outside the Eden Garden stadium while boarding a bus after practice session Thursday.
Chappell had angered Ganguly’s fans after he had questioned the former skipper’s form and his place in the Indian team. Ganguly later lost his place in the team for the one-day international series, further angering the state’s cricket enthusiasts.
The former Australian cricketer had been provided extra security arrangements during his stay in the city as police apprehended trouble from Ganguly’s fans.
this guy seriosly needs some help, first he says he didnt do it, now he did and tries to defend it!! amazing? i cant believe indians like i mean old greats arent taking this issue as n e thing seriously, i always give an example of how indians are more together than us on issues concerning their “izzat” thats all thrown out the window now, or maybe the kolkata crowd must be so nasty that even some indiands are saying they deserved it!
Well! The loss must have devastated the players and the couch. As far as the Eden garden crowd is concerned ‘Its about time’
They should learn to appreciate this sport, when both side players (Many other teams) have played their hearts out showing (them) great skills and endeavor to this great game of cricket and in return they always had a raw deal from them (crowd).
---------------cvabn--------------
These after shocks of ‘I did - I did not’ are expected and its totaly irrelevant.
Its him against the crowd - Who do you support ??
At least the players and the couches should be allowed a little time to grief thier losses before some thugs decides to go on ‘spit on face’ spree for all. don’t you think ? :elmo:
Its not that Chappell will hang around much longer with Indian cricket or not. Its that he will make a complete mess of the team by the time he leaves. Losing by 10 wickets in a one-day should pretty much be the lowest point for a team. Under Wright, even against Pakistan, when India lost the series, they were not that bad. Now, under Chappell, with his new "strategies" all the time, Indian team ka tau satiyanaas hi ho jaana hai.
^ you are forgetting the almost-white-wash Indian gave to Sri Lankans, I doubt that it’ll be taken as “lowest point”. Sending Pathan to open the innings and Dhoni well down the order was just
Captain,
Dhoni is down the order for a reason. Reason being that he is one who is capable of slogging in death overs. THis has been a major problem for India lately. At the same time he can be moved up the order if required and he demonstarted his ability very well.
Taking about Irfan, He has been very successfull whenever he was sent one down in last 10 matches. If he can be successfull at No 3 then why cant he bat at No 1. Those who are criticizing that move would be praising if he clicked. The whole idea was to take care of green wicket that bengali’s prepared. Send him up the order let him be there 8-10 overs then let Sachin and Sehwag take care of South African later. It didnot work. We can discuss merit and demerit of this strategy but It is not such a whacky thing to do.
Now Chappel, what he did was not right. He should apologize. He should have controlled his temper. But to be fair to him,Bengali’s pushed the whole Indian team too far. What they did was disgusting. Even player like Dravid is pissed of with this behaviour. This is what Dravid said about Kolkata crowd today.
“*Luckily I was not fielding on the boundary line like others who had to put up with the abuses. I told the others jokingly that we are in good company, in the company of the great Sunil Gavaskar who too had to face a similar reception in Kolkata along with the 1983 World Cup winning team. If that side could get booed, I think we’re doing something right.”
*Bengalis came out like Gujratis. Only difference is that one is Hindu fanatic and other one Bengla fanatic.Bengali's have produced only one good cricketter in last 50 years and they cant beleive that his carreer is over and making it a pride issue. This is a wrong trend that they have started. What if Bombay starts behaving like this on Sachin's exclusion of Hyderabad does this because of Laxman. Looks like now it is Kolkatta Vs Rest of India.
Faisal Bhai, that 10 wicket loss was one of those days that every team has once in a while. Dew factor can play havoc in day-night matcges in this part of world during this time of year. I dont think it is lowest point. Indian won 7 out of las 10 matches against world No 2 team. This is pretty darn good. This series in not lost yet. India is trailing 2-1 and may come back to make it 2-2 today. But ofcourse it will depend on who wins toss in this last match.
Series Levelled, Dravid made the point........ Stopped and praised Mumbai crowd..........
That was class act, I have never seen that being done earlier...
GChappel should learn some class ways of being agressive from this guy..
Bongs just went bonkers. What if every cricketing state thinks similarly. Indian cricket team will ever play in Chennai. Balaji was unfairly removed, Robin Singh was removed for only reason that he was getting old. Bangloreans will be peeved for not having Kumble in the team for ODis.
Get all those people inEden gardens and give them a wallop on their asses and then they would behave properly.
