Fusion of culture and religion - Disco Naats

Writing and reading naats is as old as Islam is. Hassan Bin Sabit (RA) is known as ‘Shayar e Rasool’ - the poet of the Prophet.

When Muslims came in sub-continent they were affected by the local Bhajans and some people believe that these Bhajans lead Muslims to invent ‘Qawwalis’.

With the introduction of cinema in sub-continent, masses (including Mullas  ) affected by songs tunes and many popular Naats were made on the tunes of songs. Following are some of the famous Naats made on the tunes of old hit songs.

How do you see this fusion? It feels quite irritating to me, when i realise that a particular naat is based on a songs tune and I could not remember the actual song.

Not only the naats on filmi songs tune, but the songs with high beat (without music like rendered by Qadri group) also an irritating factor. One of my friend told me that young children start dancing when they hear Owais Qadri rendering those high beat naats. One of my friend who used to play Micheal Jackson in his car, started playing Qadri for getting high beat during Ramadan :bummer:

BTW who is your favourite Naat Khwan amongst those high beaters?

Re: Fusion of culture and religion - Disco Naats

no no, echo is intentional, it was not a bad recording. They do it so it sounds like that the naat sound is coming from heavens. :hehe:

Re: Fusion of culture and religion - Disco Naats

Re: Fusion of culture and religion - Disco Naats

Re: Fusion of culture and religion - Disco Naats

But Sami Yousuf uses music. Ya Akhi, Al Mosiqui is haramun. La?

Re: Fusion of culture and religion - Disco Naats

Please post the name and link to video (if any). I really want to know the authenticity of this. As far as my knowledge works, Qawwal / Qawwali seems a derivation from Qol / Aqwaal :hmmm:

Re: Fusion of culture and religion - Disco Naats

Re: Fusion of culture and religion - Disco Naats

Such corruption is a sign of the times were getting closer to the end every day.

However who am I to say what is or isn't islamically acceptable.

I just feel that its not the right thing to do but whatever floats the boat I suppose.
