Furniture

Since Eid is fast approaching, I had been considering getting rid of my old furniture and bringing in new stuff, before my parents come to town for a visit. I’m a single, religious Pakistani guy with a 2 bedroom condo right in the middle of downtown. I live alone and don’t spend too much time at home because of work.

I wanted to ask everyone: What are the must haves for a nice pad? I’m thinking a bed, sofa, sofabed, huge TV, a a dining table, a couple of book cases, and a big armoire for clothes, coffee and soda machines (caffeine junkie :D)

Am I missing something crucial here? What do you people have at home in terms of furniture?

Re: Furniture

a rug and table for the lounge, must have :roman:

Re: Furniture

wife :hehe:

i donno may be a writing table (in fact to me its the most important place, where i put all my junk).

Rug!! I’m a sad excuse for a Pakistani. We have some the most beautiful rugs and I completely forgot it.

Table for the lounge: Forgot that one.

Did you just call a wife part of the furniture? missy you would be in so much trouble with the feminists. No seriously, I’ll leave the decorating to my mom, it’s true, woman are better in that department.

Hmm, I was thinking of maybe some office type computer table with a lot of drawers/file space instead of just a plain writing desk. Thanks for making me think of it though!

well see all the things you mentioned, you can also get in jhaiz :D...so not only you will happily married ever after, but also you dont have to worry about the furniture (acha acha bro dont get serious about dowry or anything i am just joking :D).
in fact dont take serioulsy my posts.
i saw that afghan posts aftermath, and i apologize for it.

Hey come on sister! No hatred here, no apologies necessary. In fact Eid Mubarak in advance :)

Allah Tauba on any guy trying to depend on jhaiz besides we Pakhtuns pay the girls side for bearing to put up with us for life :D

Since my parents are coming, I feel like I need at least get some new furniture to freshen the place up. My last foray into decorating ended up in disaster because my mom was appalled at the color scheme and layout (frat boyish was term used). So this time around, I'm not even messing with the details, just the big stuff.

Also I'm turning my spare bedroom into proper guest room instead of the game room/junk room. Also thought about bringing in a regular sofa along with a sofa bed in case my buddies want to crash at my place.

Re: Furniture

i shall tomorow morning! will ink u =) till then u follow my advice and u shall have a palace !

haha, i know that about pakthuns :D. and i appreciated the concept when my mother told me about their this tradition.

khair mubarik in advance. and i also take my eidi in advance. thank you :D

and for your furniture it depends on the colour of the rooms. the safest colour to work with is beige and you can mix and match it with black leather decors, adding hint of green (plants).

if the room colours are white then you can give a modern touch to it, and get more edgy furniture. this i personally think that suits you more in your current life style. and instead of going with the paintings, get your geometric photography enlarged (if you are into photography). IKEA furniture is not sleek, but its very edgy.

but if the rooms are painted in some wild colour :D then u have to come up with the themes.

i am suggesting you to decorate your house keeping colour of the room in mind because it is not all about furniture. it is about inviting someone into the space. so my suggestions will not to invest in something that you will throw eventually. so pick the colour scheme (for e.g your favourite colour and its complimentary colours) and shop acc to that. otherwise your mother will again fail you :D but this time for the imbalancing the space.

Re: Furniture

pakone, in your initial list of items u have a sofa bed..now that is a dodgy item, be very picky on what you get because a good number of sofabeds are not as comfortable in sofa mode as regular sofas are, and ae woefully inadequate in the comfort department as beds.

Eidi is in the mail :p

My place is beige, before I brought it, I thought about repainting it a different color but never had the chance. So your ideas work. I like leather, it's a good investment and it lasts long. I'm headed to Ethan Allan today to buy some of the items.

I might get fake plants (as trashy as it sounds) simply because I'm out of town, I'll have to worry about getting a friend to water them. I already brought the big screen 72" TV :D It's easy when I know exactly what to buy. The speakers are being delivered in next week.

Oh this is going to be awesome and totally not gay at all.

I know its dodgy, yara. After I decided to make the second bedroom a guest room, I figured that I can throw in a sofa bed in there as well. I'll have a Queen Sized bed in the guest room and a sofabed, to give maximum sleeping capacity to my guests. I can fit 4 people in there.

I have a king size bed in my room, so keeping everything in mind I can have 4 people in the guest room plus 1 person in my room which will give me a total capacity of hosting 5 people. I'm thinking of when the cousins/old college friends come into town.

I'm going to test out the sofabeds at the showroom to see how well made they are and I want something with a money back guarantee, so that I can return it if my guests are crippled or something :)

My visitors are truly miskeens, friends would literally bring sleeping bags or crash on the couch before so I'm trying to make things better for them. Good advice though.

Re: Furniture

okay got it, so fpor softa bed, look for on of those that just fold to become beds rather than pullouts..the ones where the mattress is folded under the seats and you pull it out.

there are good pullouts but they are expensive and if you are not going to be using them that much why blow money on that, it could be a worth a couple years of espressos.

for truly occassional additional sleeping, you may just want to get a decent inflatable mattress thing, does not take up space when not in use, more comfy than most sofa beds and cheaper..

your espresso fund just grew to 3 years

I did get a sofa bed, but your inflatable mattress idea is really good. I haven't tested out the sofabed yet, but I do know the "folding" sofa beds are futonish which means that they look a bit flimsy as sofas. I'm going to sleep in the sofa bed ans see it goes before deciding to keep it.

I thank you and most of all the, expresso fund thanks you.
