Re: Funny Dialects
Oh man if you wanna talk about dialects, look at Punjabi. I was doing some reading in some of my oldschool Pakistani Punjabi dialect books, and it gave estimates that every 4 or 5 miles, the dialect (within Punjab) changes. You have Potohari, Mirpuri, Lahori (Some include this in Majhi like we speak in Amritsar, but it’s different in my experience) Majhi, Doabi, Malwai, etc etc. The list goes on and on.
If you want to see a good variation of Indian Punjabi, see these videos:
Faisal Durrani ( Sikh Yatri Part 1 ) ( Kasur Kis Ka ) - YouTube
Rarki Bandan Za Hum Pakistani Yam Nankana Sahib 28 Aug 2011 - YouTube
Sikhs from all over the world celebrating vaisakhi in Pakistan - YouTube
Some dialects pronounce “chh” as “sh”, some pronounce gh as k (when it begins a word) some pronounce g as gh (gulab jamun->ghulab jamun). Some pronounce "v’ as “m” (Navi->Nami) Others have highly urdu vocabulary, others have highly sindhi vocabilary, others have highly hindi vocabulary and others have highly kashmir vocabulary.
We have different words for the same thing depending on dialect (Buhe=Darwaza). Some dialects change “z” to “j”. Some use “wa” instead of “e/hai”
Here’s some southern pakistani punjabi called derawali:

@Ali Bhai
Yep, some dialects of Punjabi are so insanely different from others, it’s confusing as heck. I saw two older Punjabi men at the gurudwara once, and they started talking to each other but neither could understand the other’s dialect, one guy was like…“why don’t we just talk in urdu???” ![]()

In Nigeria, they have made a new language by adding words from different languages and they named it Pigeon language lol . I have few black mates , they belong to Ghana, Nigeria, Africa, Ivory coast, Jamaica and Tanzania,they speak Swahili ,Nigerien and different African Jamaican languages. They told me about it and I asked them to speak for few minutes this Kabotari language. ![]()
