Funny Dialects

It is said that every language changes dialects from a particular distance (40 kaus may be). Some languages (like Punjabi) got around a dozen dialects.

People speaking one dialect sometimes find it difficult to understand the other dialect. Some dialects are funny to hear.

Someone told me that they don’t speak Sindhi with their chef from Thar as both parties can’t understand each other. Do you experience such situation?

Re: Funny Dialects

What is dialect?

Re: Funny Dialects

Lehja… the tone and vocabulary used by people of a particular area to speak a language. Pakistani English :hehe:

Re: Funny Dialects

^ I have lived in Taxila for a few years. I used to do a combination of tracking/hiking from Taxila to Islamabad (Faisal Mosque) with my friends (once or twice a year). Once we got lost in the mountains and had to ask an old lady the direction towards Islamabad. She said something in her dialect “some sort of potohari”. I couldnt understand it a bit, asked her again and her voice became shriller. Had to ask her again, as a result she picked up a stone and we had to run away. Maybe she was thinking that we were making fun of her. :smack:

Re: Funny Dialects

I have been working in faisalabad. Their greeting/asking style "kiddaan!" (somewhat like "what's up") annoyed me most, I found it hard to reply properly. Even today my friends ask me "kiddaan!" I reply "aiddaan uddaan e!" :D
