Re: fully covered wife and husband in shorts in summer
cover their upper body, chest and especially chest hair ... not wear sleeveless ... not wear pants or shorts that are obove knees .. not wear tight pants that every curve is outlined....
I think you are trying to hide behind the regulations because you can't be as open as men, just like in the closet men can be extremely anti-gay.
Re: fully covered wife and husband in shorts in summer
I don't get this modesty thing with Muslim women, especially desi Muslims. They will fully reveal their arms, but god forbid if their legs are exposed.
This dynamic that OP is talking about is more prevalent in Pakistan then in the west. Men can wear whatever the hell they want wherever they want, but the minute a woman steps out in anything other than shalwar kameez we are losing our culture and all that bs gets blurted out.

Re: fully covered wife and husband in shorts in summer
Hareem I meant to say I wear a headscarf ALL the time, even my girls do. I also wear a long thin cotton coat in the hot weather with shades. No one forced me to do this, not even my hubby or MIL, heck not even my own parents. It's just summat I wanted to do from a youngish age and for me it just feels so right. I'd feel naked if I could not have my scarf on my head, its part of who I am, it's my identity as a strong British Muslim woman. I don't give a rat's tail what others think.
Re: fully covered wife and husband in shorts in summer
^and some of these women believe it's fine to reveal their ugly legs with them cropped shalwars or whatever.
Really, who cares? I bet the woman was the twat for wearing a big fat cardigan in the summer heat.
Some women (and men) believe in burkha's, gloves and socks 24/7, some just believe in abayas and hijabs, some believe in simply being dressed modestly with a hijab (i.e. jeans and a longish top, sleeves no shorter than 3/4). In the time of the Prophet (SAW) the women just used a big duppatta, like the chaddars the old women in pak wear, to cover themselves, not these fancy schmancy abayas.
Men have their own aura's and women their own, just deal with it. After all, life in the Dunya is short, we won't need to worry about such things in the Hereafter, just think of it as your own personal jihad if it bothers you so much, that way you get more reward as you are doing it just to please Allah. Men should also try to be more considerate towards ther wives, if you're talking about Islam I doubt any of the sahabis walked about in shorts on the beach surrounded by naked men and women. Also a T-shirt won't kill you, spare us the moobs.
Re: fully covered wife and husband in shorts in summer
If it's her choice then who cares?
And I agree with Nomi, Islam is sexist, but there's a reason. Guys are visual because a "hot" woman indicates fertility. That's why we stare like pigs. Women notice too, but they're more subtle. That's probably the reason women are told to cover up more: because guys will stare at them.
Is that fair to women? No, but that's how guys are. The world isn't fair.
Back to the original question, I personally would not be in surfer shorts or anything of that nature if I was with a woman who was fully covered like that. But I don't expect, nor do I really want to be with, a woman who would cover up like that (winterish clothes in sweltering weather). But that's just me.
Re: fully covered wife and husband in shorts in summer
I haven’t really seen a fully covered wife with a husband in shorts, but reading about it reminded me of what happened to a friend once–he had gone somewhere (a park iirc) with his wife and several women from the family. These women were all wearing niqab, except for his daughter. So a man wearing short shorts came up to him and told him that he was offended by what the women were wearing. So my friend told him that he was offended by what that guy was wearing
