Islamically, men are allowed to wear shorts as long as it covers their knees.
It just looks really odd if the guy is wearing shorts and girl is wearing nikaab/hijab. Muslims who are aware of the rulings on dress codes might not see anything wrong with it, but it might just look weird and a tad hypocritical to outsiders.

Now I’m thinking about this one. I wear a hijab and the guy I’m getting married to wears shorts (knee-length ones) VERY rarely. He just owns a pair that he’s never worn around me anyway . I should talk to him about that and make him throw them away.

Exercise caution so that he doesn’t decide to throw you away instead.
