Fruits that different countries are known for

The discussion in General about Pakistani mangoes got me thinking. What fruit(s) is your country or region known for?

Ours is pomegranates.

In South Africa, the fruits that they’re known for are grenadilla (passion fruit), guavas, tangerines (‘naartjies’) and apricots (‘appelkoos’).

Re: Fruits that different countries are known for

Re: Fruits that different countries are known for

Dates are big in Pakistan in terms of quality and large variety, mostly in Sind, I believe.

The Northern Areas have their cherries and apricots.

Re: Fruits that different countries are known for

Mangoes!!! A coworker tried some mango and said it tasted like paint. It might as well be paint woman because you can get high on them. :snooty:

Where I live…oranges are popular.

My own favorite fruits: chilled watermelon, pears, mango, tangerines. More recently I developed a like for cherries too.

Re: Fruits that different countries are known for

Britain is known for its cherries. Cherries from Kent are especially sought after as they are sweeter than other varieties. Cherry growing in Britain has been in decline for the past few decades but has been making a comeback in recent years.

Re: Fruits that different countries are known for

The tree of Jammun is so weak that it can break anytime you climb up, it is full of ants all the time

I only know coconut and the best is their quality of rice, everytime I visit south I make a point to bring at least 2 KGs of it

Re: Fruits that different countries are known for

Is jamun a 1 month fruit in India as well? In Pakistan, the fruit doesnt survive for more than a month...hence, its highly sought after.

Re: Fruits that different countries are known for

We had a jaaman tree at home in hometown. Its really weak and not for climbing.

Last month, I asked a phal wala rate of jaaman.. He said ‘150 rupe pao’. Maine kaha ‘kia Jannat se mangae hain’ :hehe:

  • Falsey (Gerwia fruit). Falsey juice, so good for your skin. Drink it for one week, and you can see the shade of falsey on your cheeks.

  • Pakistani melon. The round flat ones. they’re so fragrant. Below is the picture of Pakistani kharbooza or booja, as my little kiddie self used to call them.

  • Pine Nuts or *Chilghoza
