OK people, here I am posting some pictures of my fruit trees. I am doing this today, as yesterday it rained very hard in Karachi. Therefore the sky is extra blue right now - And all the trees washed clean as well!
So without any further delay, let me now first show you the Khajoor (date palm) tree that’s been growing in my house. Exactly how it started to grow is still an unresolved mystery to me, as I never planted it…
Next is the fruit hanging from my Jamun (jambolan) tree. The tree also was unplanned, my guess is that some bird probably dropped it’s seed. Which then started to grow. Anyhow, since I am a lover of plants, I let it grow (as there was nothing else planted there).
Well we had first rains! Now the all the wild plants of Karachi will grow up. If you happen to travel on the link highway between Super & National, you will come across the most beautifut landscape of Karachi. But go after a week.
I miss that check dam on Malir river near Jam Kunda Goth where I used to swim!
Well, Jungle Jalebi (Pithecellobium dulce) I already have!
However the Cheeku (Manilkara zapota), Mango, and Amrood (Guava) tree have been killed off by my neighbors. How you must be thinking did this happen? Well, they first demolished their whole house (about 10 years ago). And then pumped some nasty chemical into the ground. They said that it will not harm anything except for the termites. After which they rebuild a new house over there.
Anyway long story short, all the old tree on that side of this property took a very bad hit. That’s why I then let all these new tree grow unhindered. Like the date palm and Jamun trees.
Wow awesome post.. Really really pleasant & refreshing to watch the pics.
I also have an imlee tree in my house and it gets lots of flowers but very little fruit every year :(
I think I know what the problem is with your tree, as I had the same issue once. Anyway, after doing some detective work, I discovered that the tree was slowly being poisoned by a gutter pipe going underground...
Normally, raw sewage does not harm a tree. Nor does soap water. But when there are trace amounts of bleach in the water (like the water discharged after you have done your laundry) - Then you've got a big problem on your hand.
Anyway, I was advised by everyone to chop down the tree, as it's roots were causing the underground pipe to leak. I however kept the tree, and simply re-routed the pipe!
No, I’m just a guy who loves greenery. Lots and lots of it! I even made a video of the flower show we have every year at Seaview beach. Here is the link to it:
SubhanAllah!!! Some of the fruits in Karachi and its surroundings are the best in the country - like Guava, cheeko and papaya and as well as some of the vegetables like Peas, Rocket Chillies, Gawar, Tori etc!
if you have neem at your home, i am sure you get lots of knocking at your door all the time. thats what happens at our home. ppl from aas pados keep coming for neem leaves
BTW, what is the Neem fruit used for ( besides putting in toothpastes ). Is it edible ?
Also, these trees ( date palm etc. ) must be growing for a long, long time to be big enough to yield fruits. Sorry just trying to guess your age. Don’t mind it.
Shahbaz sahab why did you pick the coconuts so early.. they are not brown yet.. Looks like you really like coconut water :)
Yaar it may not look like it in these pictures, but this coconut tree I think is 50 years old now. And so is as high as a 6 story commercial building! Few years ago during strong winds, a coconut fell from my tree - Straight onto my neighbor's car! It totally smashed the windshield (which I eventually had to pay for).
So not wanting that to ever happen again, I have these coconuts pucked early for their water. This tree gives me about 40 to 60 coconuts, 3 times a year!
Yes, all the time. Sometimes there are old lady types who says that they need some leaves to undo some sort of a curse on some child of their’s (which does not make any sense to me). While sometimes people ask for it because they say they have some sort of an ailment.
But the strangest request that I ever got, was from a person who said that someone in his family had passed away. So he needed some neem leaves, which they will soak in the water that will be used to wash the dead body…
Listening to this, I without any hesitation gave that man a big bunch. However few days later, I caught that same person - Who was this time trying to steal them from over the wall. Anyway, I asked him: Who in your family died this time??? To which he embarrassingly admitted that he actually had a skin rash (in a private place) which was just not going away.
I of course then instantly understood what his problem was. Apparently, he was too scared to go to the doctor for it - As then it would become known how he got that rash… So desperately trying to cure himself of some STD, he was trying this approach.
Neem tree in it’s natural form is only a mild fungucide (meaning that it has some anti-fungus properties). But in no way will it ever cure anything like genital herpes… Anyway, since that day, I now never give Neem tree leaves to anyone - As I have started to suspect that everyone who asks for it, must in reality have some sort of STD that they are trying to cure on their own (thereby avoiding much embarrassment in front of their doctor).
