There is natural beauty..it does exist. However I think that advancement in medical science ....both in increased knowledge about skin and plastic surgery and other procedures .....has also led to a greater interest and investment in beauty.

I also wonder if the diet nowadays is not as healthy as it was decades ago.....as in more additives and harmful chemicals in our food along with increased stress in modern day society.....is maybe wreaking more havoc on our skin......and therefore there's a greater interest in maintaining our looks. I think my cousins in Pak have beautiful skin, MA....maybe due to a more simple/healthy diet along with the pressure to maintain oneself.

Advancement in technology also includes constant bombardment of celebrities in the media.....making the masses feel more conscious about their own looks and how they compare to people they see on tv and in the magazines.
