Re: Friendships…
I think friends, like many other things in life, come in all shapes and characters. There are the extremely rare ones that are loyal and true, then the more abundant ones who are casual friends that are nice to hang out with and see every now and then, and then on the other end of the spectrum, those that are hypocrites, liars, cheaters, backstabbers, etc etc. Personally, I think I’ve met (and sadly befriended) one of every kind. I wish I could’ve recognized the backstabbers and liars earlier, and my biggest regret in life is that I ever thought to trust and call them ‘friend’. Live and learn I guess.
Mrs Saieen, it’s funny you mentioned friends you start out not liking then they turn out to be your best friend. My first close friend, I met her in 5th grade.. we hated each other at first, then became best friends. I had thought we were close friends well into adulthood, but as I moved forward in life, and she for her own reasons did not not advance very far, our friendship deteriorated completely. I believe the root of the cause is she envied what I have achieved, and so we just stopped staying in touch.
Yet I have another friend, who I did like from the very first, who is indeed my best friend, and has been for the past 17 yrs. I feel truly blessed to have such a friend, because she is a best friend in every sense of the word. We both grew up and changed over the course of high school and college, then our jobs and marriages took us to different cities, but when push comes to shove, she has always been there for me, and I hope I’ve always been there for her too. Hmmm… which reminds, I need to give her a call and bug her. Best thing about suffering through maid-of-honor duties for your best friend’s wedding… you can pay her back when it comes to planning your own wedding! ![]()
