Does freezing chopped onions alter the taste or affect cooking in any way? I am trying to reduce my cooking time from 41 minutes to less than 30. Getting rid of this step will save me about 5.

I havent done this, but i think its better to boil the onions first then blend them to make a paste. Then freeze them. This wont spoil their taste

It takes less than a minute to cut the onions :p
It makes a lot of difference in taste for sure. Fresh things haas its own benefits..
do your cooking while watching TV. it works out good...

Sadaf, onion paste? it will turn into icicles. I don't think it's a good idea.

sometime i freez sliced onions and their taste remain ok but not chopped one i think it will be ok to freeze them but anyway fresh things always better .u can do this work on weekly basis ,chopp or slice the onions for aweek and then freez or even u can put them in fridge too,but not for longer time and u can do this work like nia said while watching tv.

As for your question, why don't you buy brown(ed) onions from the supermarket. That should solve the problem.

Those brown pre-fried onions...urgh I hate the taste. It's good for rice pulao but not for gravy.

using freezed onions will slightly alther the taste but nothing significant. It is pretty much like freezing chopped ginger, garlic, or green papers.
Just make sure you don't freeze them in big big quantity. I mean don't freeze them more then a week otherwise they will loose the taste and freshness.
by the way the pre fried onions are yum, i can eat them like nimko :D

Never frozen onions. I think they are watery enough as it is freezing them will make them more watery. try and tell though.
