I dont think there is any law banning any sort of protest. Holocaust denial is not against the law in the US, and we arent talking about Europe.
Banning offensive speech is a slippery slope. If you ban this, then whats next? Who decides what is or isnt offensive? What if tomorrow, Muslims are deemed offensive by Chiristians in America because the deny the divinity of Christ? What of those people in France who are offended by the burqa? Are they in the wrong? But shouldnt we protect their sentiments as well? You would say that the urqa ban is offensive to you, the French would say that the Burqa itself is offensive. Pakistanis should understand this point better then anyone. The absurdity with the way in which the so called blasphemy law is applied is amazing! Who is a blasphemer? Is a person who doesnt take part in a protest against blasphemy also a blasphemer? I mean where does it end? You dont understand that in complex societies, there is really no way to protect everyone from being offended or stop people from being offensive. Hell, there are offensive people in this very forum, and im sure you are offended often yourself, as im sure i have offended others as well. But if we were all obsessed with not offending no one would be able to express themselves.

Again, you cannot satisfy EVERYONE. People are offensive all THE TIME, its not the role of the govt to protect you from being offended. Should Pakistan ban speech that offends Ahmadis in Pakistan for example?
No they cant "invent" all laws under the sun, and no the cannot make laws to ban offensive speech. The reason is that they would never be able to satisfy everyone.
The members of the said group are equal citizens. They have equal rights. That means they have equal right to free speech. Another words, they are allowed to be offensive if they choose to be. However, it also means that they are not entitled to being protected from any other group being offensive towards them. As long as no one incites others to violence or makes threats, they are protected by law to free speech.
The society that sets itself up as above others has to be singled out more when it fails to meet those high standards.

the UK doesn't have freedom of speech similar to the US' first amendment. in fact, UK has one of the strictest anti-defamation laws. you can not legally make racist or threatening or insulting comments in public in the UK, you can in the US.

I defend peoples right to protest without people like being judgemenatal about them, and telling them to stay at home. In democracies we encourage protests and debate, so long as it is peaceful. This is what makes our democracies vibrant.

I also defend their right to protest. But judging them is also our right, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In this case, most reasonable people would judge that protesting is counter productive and not worth it. All that has come out of such protests is more not less resentment and bigotry towards Islam and Muslim... Muslim countries look more backwards, not less. Islam seems more regressive, not less. So what have you accomplished? Answer that.
