Freedom of speech..sometimes?

So what are your opinions about the banning of facebook in pakistan story?

In this day and age is there any point in banning things?

The message is for all times. Should we erase ban on alcohol now? Should we let the cults and kuffar attack the message?

Re: Freedom of speech..sometimes?

The difference is CP ..Facebook is just a means of communication not an intoxicant..whats next ban the telephone?

KARACHI: As soon as news of the Lahore High Court verdict ordering a ban on the social netwroking website Facebook filtered in, users of the micro-blogging website Twitter started making witty 140-character jokes about the ban.

Here’s a selection of some of the funniest.

From @acorn: What’s the difference between Facebook and Jamaat-ud-Dawa? Ans: Facebook is banned in Pakistan

From @acorn: Dear Facebook: if the Pakistani govt bans you, you only have to resurface under a new name.

From @rshakoor: LHC bans Facebook and musharraf loses his entire constituency

From @mosharrafzaidi: How is Leon Panetta going tp update his #FB status?

From @fakebalthakre: Pakisthanis can’t use FB until May 31.Excellent opportunity for Hindusthan to block water to all Pak farms on Farmville.

Re: Freedom of speech..sometimes?

Again, afaik, they banned it because of the chance of riots and whatnot, top it off with a DDoS attack on the servers which would of brought down the whole network of Pakistan.

Re: Freedom of speech..sometimes?

 whyyyyyyyyyyyyy? i heard this from my best friend, but i thought he was kidding since he hates FB anyways ..

yeah reason its blocked is to prevent some fundo nutjobs to come out protest and burn shops and possibly take lives blaming the pak govt for not doing anything. its for the sake of law n order

Re: Freedom of speech..sometimes?

there is a point to some extent..it shows that these things are not acceptable and prevents further problems in society...i dont understand the whole freedom of speech thing..the second a group goes up mocking jews or the holocaust its deleted immediately? and yet fb cannot delete such an offensive groups..some of those pictures are so awful theyr probably offensive to non muslims too!

dude this is not 90's, .. even total bandwidth of Pakistan is used to DDOS attack on Facebook or Google data centers, it will have 0 impact. It's not the Talibanic-network which is hosted on some unknown FATA based data center consists of stolen servers/routers from Peshawar bara bazaar !

If gay-taliban's have enough tech-knowledge they will probably start Internet War fare long before, but as some of the commanders are studying or gaining knowledge in Canada and other western countries.... so i am crossing fingers .. !

Re: Freedom of speech..sometimes?

I have never been one to buy into conspiracy theories but for this one,I really think and could see agent-types of US gov't encouraging this"draw the Prophet"day to get Pakistan to shut down a critical communication ability.

When radical Islamists accept that there are disrespectful people, people who are respectful but different from them and then learn how to cope in a multi-cultural, multi-religious world, then these things will not be an issue yeah?

So WHAT if someone draws the prophet. They are rude and disrespectful. You dont have to look at it and you surely dont have to condone it. THEY have to answer for themselves at some point and it isnt OUR job to do that.

Re: Freedom of speech..sometimes?

^ we as muslims have to condone it and stop it by all necessary means.

Re: Freedom of speech..sometimes?

thats a backward statement frozen!!! What needs to be done is not to CONDONE it...but allow it yeah? Allow it not because you accept it but because Mankind is given freedom of choice. Ifa certain person or group of persons CHOOSE to be disrespectful then thats their business and their shame so lets leave them TO IT. Muslims do not have to stop it "by all means"...I mean reall...no God/Allah appointed aMuslim or any Muslim group to be the police of morality yeah?

in gay-Tablbanic world it is allowed and it's their religious duty to force all kind of crap they can think while living in cave world.

The proper way to tackle is through religious Fatwa .. for exampe.. I mean Taliban have already implement marrying goats in their world - if their can be a joint fatwa issued by some known scholars then probably taliban can stop stop or rethink their cruelty towards goats !

Whats with the over-using of the "gay" word.

Your equating disrespecting our prophet with freedom ofspeech? If I decided tobe disrespectful to a Jew, a homosexual, a disabled person, to a woman I will be punished under EQUALITY LAWS.

WHERE do we draw the line?

We dont have to look at it your right but we can just say no too.

The trouble causers are not Radical Islamists but educated, civilised free-thiking, freedom loving Westerners. Today it will be cartoons tomorrow I shudder to think.

Have you ever seen how they portray Jesus peace be upon him i their various plays, films etc?

Rather than justify what they do why dont you ask yourself WHY is it always Islam that they have to practise their freedom of speech against? They can choose Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Sikhs and so many others.

Facebook is used constantly for Islamaphobic activities. It has similarities to a telephone but neither the internet nor any social profile net working system can be compared to as something simple as a telephone. It is not just a means of communication - it is something much deeper. It has become a place where people form part of a community.

Can you imagine getting up in the town hall and starting this competition?

Re: Freedom of speech..sometimes?

^:lajawab:

Facebook’s downfall has begun.

print media has been used in the past to smear Islam..and yes its a community creating force..should we ban it as well? Forums where people post create communities but the tool that is used is a form of communication. Do you condemn the community or the tool used to create it?

gay or taliban is same word - reality !

Do you buy and consume print media that prints filth? I'm thinking not right?

Same way, are you going to fill in the pockets of an organization[facebook] that does NOTHING about the 10s of thousands of complains that were sent by users? (seriously what's the report page for anyway).. anyway the point being, you STOP consuming something which disrespects your beliefs in any way. Be it a tiny bit on the internet or a whole page. Especially when they post against the GREATEST man that ever lived Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam.

Either we Muslims are too attached to this facebook dunya
or
we are ignorant of enormity of this issue
or
our love for Rasullalla(SAW) is only on the TONGUE. and THAT is true for the **90% of the Muslims today **who do not even offer 5x daily salat which is an order from Allah SWT. Cartoons are almost a non-issue when we speaking about this point..
