Did not know where to put it so I am posting it here. This is from Michael Brooks, author of “13 Things That Don’t Make Sense”, This is just way too amazing for me.
Michael says, science is still pondering this whole concept of free will.
The idea that you make your own decisions is actually not the view of science even though it’s the view of us every day. Neuroscientists say our brains are making these decisions well before we’re conscious of any intention to do something. So if you perform a measurement on somebody’s brain to see when the arm is about to start moving or something like that and compare that to when the person said “I’m going to move my arm”, you find that the brain has already started the movement well before the person has made the conscious decision to move.
This is a really hard idea to grasp, says Michael, however…
There was a more recent study that found that up to seven seconds could occur between the brain starting a movement and the person becoming aware of it. So it seems there’s a lot to explore there in terms of, “Are we responsible for our actions?”
I hope that this amazed you jahilaan-e-GS as much as it did me ..
It collides with the religious teachings so I do not which version would people attribute to Jaahils.. guess it depends on what holds more importance in one's eyes...
brain that makes the decision still belongs to the person, in any case.
Naahhhhhhh, I don’t believe it. I mean yes Allah knows it all way before us, but our brain, which is anyways so darn lazy these days could no ways work before I knew it.
Or maybe, my conscious mind doesn’t know it yet because it takes time for the signals to arrive from my subconcious mind which works closely with my brain
OK now I need to hit someone. My brain told me. It’s not my fault
I think that it goes exactly with the religious thinking that we so much believe in.
Its not the brain that is making the decision per say, its the activity that starts in it all of a sudden. Its almost like some being is telling brain to warm up in advance.

I am not trying to prove a scientific theory, I am just saying that this goes with what we believe in ke allah ke hukm ke baghair eik tinka bhi nahi hil sakta.
So That means It may Take 7 SECONDS each between Booger picking…so start the timer…1..
2
3
4
5
6
7
One Booger out…
start again
1
2
3…What comes After 3:hmmm:
oh yes
maybe this is reading too much into the study. there could be a number of interpretations of this.. for example maybe self-awareness of certain actions (7 seconds must be in very exceptional cases) takes some time. maybe its just a measurement problem, i mean you're measuring the lag between moving your arm and saying that you'll move your arm.. I see no reason why the latter should happen before the former..it might just be that the brain systems responsible for moving the arm are faster than those responsible for vocalizing the thought.
i'd be interested in a scientific definition of free will to begin with.

I have not read that book yest, But I love to buy it and read it ..
what if a mosquito bit you and your hand moves to shoo it away, there cannot be any pre-self awareness of 7 seconds which could happen .
but as I said, I like to read the book first before going into details myself
