Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

How do you guys feel about illegal free book downloads.
Which side are you on:

  • the authors are rich anyway/knowledge should be free
  • its a crime to rob someone payment of hard work they’ve done

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

I try not to think about it, because when I do, i feel like I’m stealing :hinna:

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Ditto sista!
Not to mention I don't particularly enjoy the quality either.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Except I download and read still :bummer:

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

I use Kobo app for my books so I always pay. Its usually not much anyway, one pound or three at most for the new ones. Considering how much I love reading its a fair deal. Before the app I used to read off free PDF files online, which isn’t ethical I guess. :hehe:

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

I use Kindle - these can get pricey.
I think the priciest I've purchased is $13.99 - for me its dissatisfying to not be able to see the book on a shelf.
I don't feel like the book is mine if its not tangible.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Kindle is expensive I know. My brother uses the book app on Android and it costs him next to nothing I think for the majority of the books. And you are right that by paying and getting the proper book in the right format the experience is much more fulfilling, the PDF files I used to steal were a mess sometimes format wise.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

I wish there was a good public library around :hinna:
There’s just one proper bookstore in the city and it’s costly.

Steal :bummer: I feel a lot more terrible now. I use those pdf files too.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Haha, good to know someone else is well versed in this trade too. There was a website I used to use its not there anymore, saved me countless hours of boredom!

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Google does the work for me. But it takes time to find what I’m looking for usually. I didn’t know you were such a bookworm :lifey:

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Reading makes time go fast plus I love the fantasy genre and now there seems to be more books on that than ever and quality ones too, so its hard to not read! My brother will usually read something and then tell me and I will read it after. A fail safe method :hehe:

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Luckyyy. I have no fail safe method :frowning: out of the last 8 books I read this year, only one was good. :hinna:
Books are good. My safe haven

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Free. Always. Not reading it if not free.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Rating dekh liya karo na :hehe:

Spoken like a true Uni student

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Ratings help but not always. My good means along with a good and well written storyline, none of the chatacters should die.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Ae ki gul hoi?!

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Well everyone dies in reality can’t you spare us that in fiction:pullhair: If I’m reading fiction means I don’t want a true story.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

I feel like I've found some kindred spirits via this thread.

LP I agree I hate when characters die BUT for some reason I remember those stories more vividly.
Shak - I had no idea you were such a reader. And I to get many of my recommendations from my mom.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

Me too :( maybe it impacts us deeply because of the pain the character goes through.

Re: Free Downloads - The Ethical Perspective

I know a book series, a hit one, you would hate then

Muniya I was always a reader but recently I have started reading again big time. Before it was laziness at not going to the library but now everything is digital so no excuse :hehe:
