I saw the video that TLK posted and I’m disturbed not because TLK posted it but because I got freaked out after watching the actual video.
Do you guys think that it’s a good idea to show kids these freaky videos to create fear in them and they start thinking every other person as a pedo?
Child experts highly suggest not to show news on tv to children as it makes them depress and tense and affect their progress etc.
And really what’s the point in creating this type of awareness in kids when they can’t even defend themselves? Really it should be the parents who should watch these videos and protect their kids.
The better way to make kids aware of dangers is to simply talk to them, it can also be done through some traditional nursery rhymes (like Hoffman’s) and few fairytales like Little Red Riding Hood.
actually hareem..i disagree..i think thekiddz should know what to do in thesse situaitons because parents/guardians will not be with them 24/7..it mgiht be a little freakish for them to see such videos and hear that theset hings happen but isnt it better if the children are better protected?..instead of just trusting everyone?..these things happen a lot in paksitan..and can happen abroad too..
even i was shocked about one of the videos where they showed that the family driver should not be left alone with the child..even i learned something from the videos..and im no child..hehe..
i think awareness is good..gives us power thatke hum saab ehthiyaad kare..

I am the one in my family who get scared of unknown ...jins etc
Reason When I was a kid, I fed my self with every single scary story I could have my hands on.
If you don't introduce fear to kids, they will not have fear in them.
We have seen it in one of my friends younger brother. Some one told them that in there house, A room upstairs was possessed. Every one was scared to go there.
This kid will actually go there and yell at the entity , telling her to leave.
I got us friends surprised, after much brain storming we found out he didn't not know what fear was.

These things happen because parents/guardians don't protect their kids and kids cannot defend themselves. So what's the point in having all the knowledge and awareness of these things when the kid is not able to defend herself/hiself?

That's because you're an adult and you learnt that you shouldn't leave your kid with a stranger.

That has changed!!!!
I have done brave stuff too. once some entity was thrwoing stones on our roof top. ME and little brother woke up. Full moon night , I didn't get scared I fully investigated went at exact spot look around. I didn't see any one but stones kept comming.
I DID NOT get scared lol

why can a kid not defend themselves?..kids learn thing so easily and catch on quite quick(thats hwy its easier for a kid to pick up a foreign language than it is for an adult)..model the behaivour for them and they will imitate..how hard is it to learn that they should stay away from strangers?..n say no thank-u im fine here or whatever..?
u cant be there for ur kid ALL the time..sometimes they have to be in situaitons where they have to be by themselves..if you teach them to be dependant on u al the time for every single thing ur child will not learn anything and never be able to do anythign for thmselves..u r really paranoid about this and waay to o overprotective ot the point where it actually might harm your kidz..i feel sorry for them..

Your thoughts on this?
Hareem, each video of that series (I think there are 8-10 of them) shows what actions kids should take in that situation. So a defense approach is part of that campaign.
Parents can and should talk to kids but sometime a message that video could pass is hard to send across when a parent is talking to kids.
I know for fact cause we were trying to have our daughter revise her Arabic Qa'edaa and she was not showing interest. I managed to find some Youtube videos on basic Tajweed and played that for her. She was excited to watch them and picked up stuff very fast.
Visual stimulataion is a very powerful way of sending a message across. These videos are just doing that. Though I am not sure how effective they are so far in raising that awareness.
I disagree with you hareem. I actually showed the videos to my daughter so that she knows in action what to do. One thing that I interlinked this with a story book I was reading about chalak lomerhi(clever fox) .Its just reading the cues , maybe facial, maybe thinking what lies beneath a person’s actions.(it gets to think them more which is exactly what I wanted.
And yes, these videos cannot be compared to evening news. The graphic nature of the headlines is a big to watch in our homes.
^^^ Thanks TLK.. yeah I saw a few more videos from the series as well, and I honestly think they are a really good idea. I mean, the fact that they are cartoons dishing out a serious message, will make it so much easier for the kids to understand and remember as well as take seriously. And to be really honest, with how things are nowadays, it is no good for kids to be bhole bhalay and have realities like this hidden from them. Plus, it’s not like these videos are indecent or disturbing, I actually like the way they get their message across. However, I wouldn’t be showing them to my 6 year old sis, I think she’s far too young.. I mean she’s never alone at any time of the day so she is like REALLY safe. But kids who do tend to go out alone, even if it’s to the corner shop or whatever.. need to be aware.
That has changed!!!!

Why don’t you send your 6 years old sis out alone? She’s not too young, show her videos and start sending her alone so that she can understand the realities.

As though it is kid’s decision to go out or stay at home.

Why not?
Do you think a 2 year old can fight an adult....may be only in the cartoons.
I think the video is the need of time given how really the uneducated (or even educated) masses back home (and abroad as well) are corrupted...
Prevention is better than cure. Why not tell children that look this is considered wrong so you be careful. It's not you are telling them everything in that video.. it's like you are telling them to be careful and attentive.
these videos ae talking about PREVENTION, not fighting..
well for example when kid starts school u cant be with them there all the time right?..
So who are the strangers in school? Teachers? And you call others paranoid...

Have you seen all the videos?
See from a child's eyes, he/she will start considering all the others as pedos...and in reality majority of people aren't maniacs who go killing around kids.
