Am thinking of trying Estee Lauder Double Wear again (used it for a while in my teens when I had problem skin) but can anyone suggest a good alternative for special occasions and nights out? Are the Dior foundations any good?

Do you know which specific foundations of theirs give a matte look? Can't believe I haven't tried Bobbi Brown yet..
I use MAC Studio Tech in the day and I do like it so just looking for something with heavier coverage and a matte finish which also photographs well for special events and evenings..

Oh, I was gonna say try MAC but thought you already had that. I use Studio Fix and I like it, but some people don't like it that much on GS. Erm, Mac Face and Body is meant to be good for lighter coverage, esp for daytime use.
My sister uses Bobbi Brown, and she's very fussy about what make up she uses. I'll ask her which one she uses!
Have you tried Make Up Forever HD? It's meant to be good for heavier coverage, and I've heard good reviews about that too. I haven't tried it myself although I might buy some!

hey deeba, if you liked studio tech, try full coverage. it’s available in pro stores only (not freestanding stores).
it’s not a slap and dash foundation. you have to have properly moisturised skin, use an appropriate applicator and build up coverage. and it must be set with powder for a matte look. but it stays and looks great. to give an idea of how little you need, this is my daily foundation, although I originally bought it for my wedding in late 2008; it’s still not even half finished and i want to buy a new one as it’s bit gross to have it for that long now. on a daily basis it’s just a very thin layer on my cheeks/chin/upper lip. if it’s a wedding, i will build it up a little more.

not usually. if i have something special i will use some face to face super matte antishine on my t-zone and apples of cheeks to slow down how quickly i become greasy.

MAC Studio Fix sounds like what you're looking for: medium to full coverage, matte finish and photographs well.

Bobbi Brown's Foundation Stick is meant to be good too, but I think it's finish is slightly more dewy.

I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve the Dior foundations but I don't like their color range. Its hard to find a perfect match.
MAC, Bobbi Brown and MUFE will definitely have a good match for you if you've got the yellow undertones most of us desi girls do. MUFE has a Mattifying Foundation that has been raved about by many.

^ stoppit...the full coverage foundation from MAC- is it the same color range as their studio fix, etc? what color should i get if i'm an NC35?
also, what color in Bobby Brown should i get if i'm a MAC NC35?

I just bought estee lauders invisible fluid foundation. Its perfect for every day everyday use and gives me a flawless finish. I am not really good with foundations, i mean i can not blend them well but with this one i dont even need to. it is so easy to apply, most of the times i use my fingers. You can always build up on it for more coverage. For parties and evenings i usually finish it with double wear long wear powder.

Try Cover Fx cream foundation..Apparently all the Bollywood Celebs swears by it and its really flawlesss looking!

The shades are similar but the range is not as extensive. I have NC35 in SFPowder and I think either NC30 or NC35 in SFFluid. I bought NC30 in Full coverage and it's a perfect match for my skin.
It is Pro only so please don't overlook this. If you ask for 'full coverage' anywhere else, they will give you studio tech as they say it's their full coverage foundation... a lot of assistants don't even know about this product.
