Foundation 101

Re: Foundation 101

hmmm Gina u r back!!!! i didnt know---thats great news....:):)

as for foundation....a MAC foundation suited me so well called Studio Finsh--it was in this square bottle...r u familiar with it???? trying to find a new MAC foundation and the other ones rnt working as well (their textures r too thick)...do u know of anything from MAC with that kind of finish---soft, doesnt feel like as if uve used foundation....

ahh just to let u know--i was abt to do the same thing--get bridal make up done by MAC----so i went for a trial b4 a mehndi and the result was aweful---has to be me--cuz MAC suits so many ppl.....

the make up was done beautifully (the method/workmanship I do not have a problem with), the eye colors went well.....but the overall look was confusing--it didnt suit me whtsoever....

but I got concealer creases at the end of the night, there was a cakey appearance on the skin (a lil too dry...), The colors also faded in a few hours...looked very simple--even though I had inititally had deeper eyes (with plums, aubergines, and maroons...)

and yes my skin is also oily with blemishes......

I have the same issue with MAC foundations they are easy to apply, it's just the shades I don't like. They're either for very pale girls or really dark girls..the colors inbetween have pink undertones which look grey after the make-up is complete =(

Try a concealer (cream) by Makeup Forever it's high in pigment and "set" u're concealer too with pressed powder for the extra lasting power! I suggest that u both try out Bobbi Brown foundation sticks..they'll give u the complete full coverage and hide all blemishes too! PM me for anymore information...

Lancome also had good foundation and face powders.............I also do not like MAC foundations or finished press powders, colors do not blend with skin tones..

any info on Chanel foundations???? I use one and by far its been the best foundation Ive ever used....the Vitamin one and the color works well....do u know if the undertone is redder/yellower etc.....because to me it seems just right and its sooo light and fluid:)

ill try the Bobby Brown.....hmmm decided against MAC for bridal--am going for a local Pakistani artisan--she works with all brands and likes Kroylon....wht do u think of that brand???? ohh yeah--whts Makeup Forever.....heard of it for the first time...thought i knew my brands lol

Re: Foundation 101

it's best to use Yellow based foundations for asian skin's and there are alot of Brands tht do caterfor us:) u peeps need to go shopping and try them out for your self and see wat suits u best.

here are some Brands tht have yellow based foundations:

*Nars
*Stila
*Bobbi Brown
*Iman
*Mac

**Dermablend* - this is full coverage foundation and is excellent for people who have Birthmarks scarring or discolouring on the face or body. i think you can order it online or other wise my cousin has Birthmarks on her face and her Doctor Prescribes it for her

hope this helps :)

Re: Foundation 101

Finding the correct shade of foundation, powder or concealer can be a difficult task.
Our shade guide will help you understand what each MAC Shade means so you can find the one that’s best for you. Find your match!
The following chart was created by MAC to help you understand the wide array of foundation
shades
that MAC offers. Each shade’s name is a combination of letters followed by numbers (ie: NC 35 or NW 15). The shades range in depth from 15 (very pale) to 55 (very dark). The C, NC, N, NW or W distinguish between different skin tones.
Concealer / Foundation / Powder Shades
To understand how MAC names their shades, here is a breakdown of MAC’s foundation codes:
**Shade:**C
NC
N
NW
W
**Stands for: **“Cool”
“Neutral Cool”
“Neutral”
“Neutral
Warm”
“Warm”
**Match for: **Yellow-Golden Olive Skin
Golden Beige Skin
Beige Skin
Pink Beige Skin
Pinkish Skin

To determine what your undertones are, take a look at the underside of your forearm. If your vein looks more blue, then you most likely have pinkish undertones. If your vein looks more greenish, then you have more yellow or golden undertones.
The number that follows the letter(s) denotes the depth of the shade. The higher the number, the deeper the color.
The first step in selecting your shade is to simply look at your skin, without makeup, in daylight. If your skin looks more Yellow/Golden Olive or Golden Beige, you match with Neutral Cool or “NC” shades. If your skin is a neutral beige, you will match with the Neutral or “N” shades. If your skin looks more Pink Beige, you match with Neutral Warm or “NW” shades. This might seem backwards since usually we think of pinkish skin tones as cool and yellowish skin tones as warm. The reason for this is that MAC uses the makeup artists color wheel which is pretty much the opposite of what we usually think of as cool vs. warm. An easy way to look at it is like this: Think of each MAC foundation shade as being named with either the cool or warm shade that would neutralize and balance out your skin tone.
By looking at your skin in daylight, most skin tones will fall into either the NC or NW classifications. However, if
you are still not certain which classification is right for you, looking at the undertones in your skin will help. As mentioned in the chart above, looking at the veins on the underside of your arm can help you determine your skin’s undertones. But if at all possible, it is highly recommended to match your skin tone in person at a MAC counter or MAC store to ensure you purchase the correct shade.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
[ul]
[li]Finding the “right” colour is something very subjective. It is a good idea to choose the shade in person by visiting a MAC counter if at all possible.[/li][li]When choosing a foundation shade, you will want to make sure you use the skin near your jawline or neck area as your criteria for determining your match. This helps to ensure flawless blending and to avoid ending up with a face that’s too light or too dark that doesn’t match the rest of your skin! If you simply try to match the skin tone on your forehead or cheeks, you will often end up with a shade that looks to dark compared to the rest of you. It is much better to choose the shade that matches your jawline/neckline, and then to use a Bronzer or Skinfinish to highlight or add “sun” to your face, if desired. (Also, when it comes to actual makeup application, be sure to blend foundations and powders around the jawline and into the neckline.)[/li][li]With concealers, it is possible you may want to try a concealer with a slight tint to it. This will help cover up dark undereye circles or reddish imperfections.[/li]
[li]Slightly yellowish tones will help to cancel out and cover up dark purpleish/blueish undereye circles. (Or just selecting a concealer that is a few shades lighter than your regular foundation will also work well for diminishing undereye circles.)[/li][li]Slightly greenish toned concealers will help to cancel out any reddish tones in your skin caused by acne, or other skin conditions.[/li][/ul]
[li]If you have a significant undertone to your skin, you may choose to play it up or play it down by trying a shade that includes or excludes your undertones.[/li][li]Often, people will wear a couple different shades throughout the year because skin shade and tone can change according to the season, physical well being and general [lighting [/li]

BR the problem with Chanel is that just when I begin to like sumthing they discontinue it! And that makes my blood boil! I LOVED Lancome's "photogenic" light-reflecting makeup and they discontinued that as well. If it works for u then stick to it =)

For the wedding krylon sticks are fine. MAC counter makeup is perfect for print media, photo-shoots and models they aren't really trained to do desi brides.. I remember getting my face done as well and she put blusher on my cheeks in circles..where my face calls for it being swept upwards towards the temples.

Re: Foundation 101

^^^ ahhhhhhh!!!! that means I should enjoy my foundation until it lasts!!! wahhhh i feel like crying now lol

hmmm never really tried Kroylon products cuz I doubt u can find them here in US....saw them in Pak--but was never interested....so have no idea how it is on the skin.......seen some of her pixx/samples--looks pretty nice:)

Re: Foundation 101

If any one is interested to know, for my wedding makeup, i had the MAC MA use different kinds of foundations on me to see what the end result was like. She used both the stick and the liquid studio fix but i the stick gave me a cakey look and i did not like it at all. Against her recommendations, i asked her to use the liq studio fix and i am glad i was very vocal about what i wanted. She was concerned it wouldnt come out good in pics but it did and everyone appreciated my makeup for both barat and valima events.

Also dont be afraid to ask for a different color if you arent happy with the one you try. Not all artists at makeup counters or stores know everything so try something different if you dont like what they show you.

photogenic foundation was the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!! They need to come out with that again. I use Lancome Dual Finish as a everyday wear and it looks really good, lightweight doesnt feel like im wearing anything

I miss photgenic =( is it available anywhere in the US or UK?

Re: Foundation 101

I am wanting to take some make-up to Pak with me but torn between two foundations would you recommend mac studio fix or Bobbi Brown Stick foundation?

I tried many different foundations...I went and got a couple of different Mac foundations...but they always gave me a cakey/powdery look...I think they are better for heavy coverage..

I took a makeup course back in 06' and my instructor matched sucha perfect shade for me that I am just going to stick with it...it was by Almay....I wouldnt even have thought of trying it before....but it works too well....I dont need a lot of coverage ....just an even tone all over and it does just that...

A question for UK guppies: Do they have Almay available in UK? I havent been here long so I am still figuring things out...

Macy’s has the make up:)

Re: Foundation 101

thanks gina!!
i have oily skin, and even on freezing cold days my foundation starts to melt!
will primer help? i dont really understand how it works..

Re: Foundation 101

I have oily/blemished skin :-( and use Chanel. It works very well. I use it with Chanel's Skin Refining Complex (kinda like a oil-control base) and the two of them together do wonders.
