Tips:

1.) Never spread foundation on u’re hand to choose color. The color on u’re hands is darker or lighter than u’re face

2.) When trying foundation in a store apply a little on u’re chin and blend it well and step outdoors to check the color.

3.) Always update u’re foundation, as u’re skin also changes shades

4.) Always shake the bottle of foundation as it can split.

5.) Prep u’re skin before using foundation

How to apply foundation:

Whether u use a brush, a sponge or u’re fingers two thin layers beats a thick one for coverage!

Dot foundation on u’re forehead, nose, cheeks, chin

Blend with u’re fingers or a damp makeup sponge, stroking upwards and outwards.

To set u’re base and make it last, apply a light layer of powder with a big brush this also takes away excess shine!

Re: Foundation 101

Good advice!

I still wanna see your website :p

Re: Foundation 101

MatineeSiren, i want to talk to you - i wrote a "pm" for you but i couldnt post it, they say you 1st have to hit 25 threads in general : ( i've a serious skin problem and i don't want to ask anything here in open.

Matinee I don't have a website =(

Grrrrl you need to get one! Is there anywhere else I can see your work online?

Here it is =)

What about mineral make up for problem skin? I was looking into bare escentuals...but the product had mix reviews. More people prefer bare essentials which is only avalilable online. Theres a lot of other make up lines that have mineral make up now. What's your opinion on mineral foundation? and which brand, if any, would you recommend?

I blv mineral makeup is just an eyewash/hoax... if a foundation suits u're skin stick to it. It doesn't really do anything "extra" for u're skin to be paying huge $$ for..

Re: Foundation 101

I bought bare escentuals once and found it to be a bit wierd. From my experience, I noticed the following:

If you reapply during the day to freshen up it starts to look cakey really fast.

Ive never seen it cover up any scars or blemishes.

It doesnt last even half as long as a regular foundation would.

It gets oily very quickly.

Re: Foundation 101

BTW Gina,

The foundation recommendations are helpful...I can never for the life of me figure out where to begin when it comes to foundations. There are so many products out there that claim to transform your skin into that of a 12 yr old, its crazy! Where to begin?

Thanks for that!

Re: Foundation 101

thanks gina!

^ You are so welcome! I agree there are so many foundations and types to chose from I go bonkers at Sephora, Faces and Debenhams and Paris Gallery! But I do like Makeup Forever concealers and Bobbi Brown foundation sticks.. and YES MAC studio fix, pressed powder as well.

Foundation sticks are so easy to apply, u just need to pat it on u're face and blend with slightly moist finger-pads!

Re: Foundation 101

Welcome back Gina - I missed reading your posts while you're away. It's great to have you back :)

I need your expertise...Do you know of any good oil-free foundation sticks? I like the stick coverage but need an oil-free one - I was using L'oreal oil-free stick but that has been discontinued :(. Any recommendations???

Thank yew! I like Bobbi Brown personally.. test to see if it works for u! Do follow-up with loose powder though, it'll "set" u're makeup beautifully!

Gina,

for bridal makeup would you recommend stick or liquid foundation and what brand? i'm planning on getting my makeup done from a makeup counter (most likely MAC) and wanted your input before experimenting :). i know you highly recommend the bobbi brown stick...would you recommend that for bridal coverage over MAC? which brand/type do you recommend to give the best coverage and last the longest without looking cakey and oily? i have combo skin with some acne and scars and want to look flawless on the wedding day, iA. please help!

Re: Foundation 101

lol thanx gina so is this foundation101 a course in AUD? :p

Nabz first of all u'd need a good concealer that stays-put and contains a higher concentration of pigment. MAC doesn't have all the colors for desi skin..and they appear grey to me at times. Bobbi Brown sticks have yellow undertones which give the skin a healthy glow and makes it look radiant =) it's also great for all the lights u'll be under throughout u're wedding and photography!

Re: Foundation 101

i used liquid foundation on my cozin's wedding n it totally dried out my skin...flaky texture to be exact...while normally i hav oily skin + i never use make-up except for such occasions

U need to prime u're skin before u apply foundation =)

whats a prime?????
