Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

Thanks to someone else’s luck, Ferrari won. :cb:

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

o yaar lets say hamilton does not win teh F1, does it take anything away from the fact that he is the best rookie in the history of the sport.

Not at all..

maybe people cant handle the fact that he is not white..

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

actually, I still expect Hamilton to take the crown. Even if he finishes third and Alonso doesn't win he will be champion. So it will be tough for him not to become champion

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

I'm not sure about that. I think Jacques Villeneuve in his first year (1996) was really good too, perhaps even better. He had pole position in his very first race, Hamilton started thrid. Villeneuve only finished second to Damon Hill in that race due to an oil leak and team orders to let Damon win the race. Hamilton finished 3rd in his first race.

Villeneuve also won a total of 4 races in the season of 16 races (just like Hamilton has now after 16 races). If you convert the points Villeneuve would have had 94 points by now (Hamilton has 107, Villeneuve retired three times - but only once due to his own mistake, just like Hamilton now; cars were less reliable back then than they are nowadays, especially the engines and gearboxes)

And Villeneuve also had the chance of taking the crown till the last race of the season, despite being clearly second driver to Damon Hill. So, I actually think that if Villeneuve had had similar attention as Damon at Williams, he would have been champion (something he did in his second year btw). Lewis has had the good fortune that he didn't have to play second fiddle to Alonso, it was rather vice versa...

with respect to the competition Hamilton has to face (Alonso, Raikkonen and Massa): I think having to drive against the likes of Schumacher and Hill is tougher; not to mention drivers like Hakkinen, Alesi, and Berger)

so to say that Hamilton is the best rookie ever in Formula 1 is not entirely justified.

I'm not saying Hamilton is bad driver; if not this year he certainly has the potential to take a few world crowns the coming years. But it's just that the English media tries to overhype their own drivers. Just as back then they were trying to compare Damon Hill to Schumacher, or last year were hailing Button as the next Senna after his somewhat lucky first win in Hungary.

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

Nescio

but of we go by the theory that he has easier competition compared to Villeneuve, then by the same token Scumacher is not as good as people make him out to be because he did not have the type of competition that existed in the generation right before him. Senna, Prost, Mansell, etc..

at the end of the day no one asks who had better support, who had better competition, who had better car, in the end results matter. from what I understand from a points level as a rookie he has no peer, and if he does win the last race, he would be the only rookie to win the F1. (and lets not talk about when F1 started..cuz that is a different situation)

so comparing Hill to Schmuacher is wrong as well, because Hill also had to deal with tougher competition than Schumacher.

but we say he is among the greatest of all times, your contenental press cant stop talking about him to this day.

English press may be biased, let me correct that, it is biased, but so is the continental press.

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

Everyone is biased. At the moment, I feel fully biased in favor of Hamilton. He may not be the best Rookie but among the best for sure. I would love to see him race against Schumacher.

I feel for Raikkonen. He would have been winning many more races in Mclaren had he stayed this year.

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

I'm not so sure, as Mercedes famously proclaimed;

We can't build engines for kimi, he's like a machine, pushes too hard, doesn't know when to stop"

Based on that you would think he would be suffering more retirements, but in hindsight Mercedes should have made engines to suit his driving style

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

By the way, what should be the driver line-up for the new spyker team?

They will probably have 1 Indian
Chandok should get the seat ahead of Narain
The other driver i'd have is alex sims

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

after the purchase of course they will put an indian in there for advertising dollars, although it would not mean much success at the podium right away.

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

Well! Well! Well! Even before the last race of the season tomorrow, McLaren’s Dennis has decided to allow Alonso to get early release from their contract. He might go back to Renault. Lets see if he tries to stop Hamilton tomorrow to let Ferrari take the crown.

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

is anybody into the final one at Sau Paolo
? Lewis Hamilton falls back to 17th place

virtually losing the championship race...would say he was immature in taking Alonso head on in the early stage

Wish it is Alonso who wins the championship - ( though dont like the driver much but I would like a mclaren driver to get it)

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

seems like lewis had some car problems,

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

so kimi 1, leis 2, alonso 3.

stroke of bad luck for lewis 2 races in a row. I would say he is still a force to be reckoned with and am looking forward to his next season.

what does future hold for alonso? that remains to be seen. I think he will not be racing for mclaren next season.

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

A few costly mistakes by Hamilton and his team and a stroke of bad luck in this race - Kimi also had to endure the latter in the early part of the season - saw Kimi Raikkonen grab the driver’s title :k:

in the end, a very gripping season, and perhaps a deserved winner. Cuz based solely on driving skills, Raikkonen is indeed the fastest driver in the field right now.

Hamilton’s time will come; though I don’t think next year, because he was perhaps a little bit underestimated at the start of this season by his competitors. Next year he will be in contention from the start, which will put extra pressure on him.

At least the British media now will damped their overhyping of Hamilton. For me, Villeneuve is still the best rookie ever in F1 :cb:

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

coming in 2nd in his first season, how can you under hyper that. :)

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

^ you know X2, it was quite funny actually: I was unable to follow the race on TV after the first round of pitstops, and from there on I was following it on BBC radio.

They were covering a premiership football match live and after every 5 minutes they were updating the race. The funny thing was that as the race wore on the updates became less and less frequent. And when supposedly the race was to finish, they were covering some afternoon result from the English Second Devision, how the referee might have made a mistake when awarding a penalty to the home side :hehe:

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

does not change the fact that no one expects a rookie to make such an impact that he has a chance to win the championship all the way to the final race.

personal biases for or against him not withstanding that is.

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

^no indeed, I fully agree with that. He has surprised everyone. Congratz to him for that :k:

but it was just ridiculous that a lot of ‘pundits’ were already comparing him to the likes of Senna, Schumacher, Prost, Fangio etc

Re: Formula 1 - season 2007

ok, so now McLaren is playing the cry-baby and is going to appeal against the Williams and BMW's cars for having their fuel at 13 degrees under ambient temperature instead of 10, which was probably caused by technical problems, and for which both teams were cleared after a 3 hour session with the stewards.
