Formal dinner sets

How many do you own and in what combinations?

Re: Formal dinner sets

I have three of them.

One is China , a set of 12 plain white plates + two serving bowls
Second is , a set of 24 Plates + tea set
Third is a green rectangle stone 6 dinner plates only + three serving bowls set

Its nice to be able to take out different sets depending on how many guests we are getting.

Re: Formal dinner sets

I just got one its 6 plates + 1 big serving bowl + 1 dish + tea set. We have space issue cant accomodate more than this.

Re: Formal dinner sets

Devi, how do you manage if you get more then 6 guests?

Re: Formal dinner sets

I’ve a thing for dinner sets

Big family so for the special occassions I’ve bought 3 of the same 24 plate set including tea set. It’s simple, off white with a bit gold. I like it. Each set came with two big serving bowls and two serving trays.

I’ve a rectangle 12 plate set (white and baby blue) and one all black 12 piece set as well.

Several tea sets as well.

Quite a few 6 piece sets as well which I use when people come randomly.

It helps when you’ve two kitchens and no storage problem :hehe:

Re: Formal dinner sets

I just got a tea set , a set of 6. I am feeling really guilty now. But have been getting really bored of the stuff I already go :frowning:

Re: Formal dinner sets

I have one set with 8 serving dinner plates, salad plates, soup bowl, two big bowl and a small tray with complete tea set of 8 serving,it has no gold or silver rim so can be easily goes in to dish washer, another is six serving dinner+ tea set.

Re: Formal dinner sets

Honestly we use paper plates when there is big gathering mostly i give dinners outside. Sometimes i take out normal plates of daily use.

Re: Formal dinner sets

I’m obsessed with dinner sets/tea-sets/cutlery like my mom is :halo:

I own 2 formal ones with a 12 setting, and 2-3 more causal ones with a 4 setting. I wish I had a china room in my house to store it properly though.
For the past 2-3 years new love is coffee mugs

Re: Formal dinner sets

I have a thing for square/rectangular shaped plates…and for teapots as well…though I don’t drink tea.

Re: Formal dinner sets

:lifey: Same here! Although, I do drink tea. Silver needle <3 <3 <3

Re: Formal dinner sets

lol..we could start a cult :cb: I get obnoxiously emotional with rectangle plates and crockery too

Re: Formal dinner sets

My mom has a huge variety of dinner sets. When I got married I didn’t get any for me as it was MIL’s home and she also has all dinning room filled with dinner sets. My Noritake set is still packed in Pakistan. When we relocated initially only got for home. I dont have very formal dinner sets but I have 2 of Corelle, one of the m is round plates and other is square one. However I dont use them for dinners as this home we dont have dishwasher so I use the party disposable plates for dinner. I have these 2

Corelle® Livingware
Corelle® Square

Dont have any tea sets as my friends are nt very fond of tea coffee. Other than that there is space constraint in western houses specially rental. But I look forward to get a noritake one in future bashart e zindagee

Re: Formal dinner sets

I have the typical Corelle set. I bought several of the same set so that I have the dinner plates, dessert plates, bowls and mugs (all 40 count). I also bought several of the matching serving platers.
I use the same dishes for everyday as well company.

Re: Formal dinner sets

We totally could! I recently saw a square crockery set by Le Creuset, with complete square pans, saucepans, and the like, in the most lovely mint enamel colour. I don’t how practical that would be but they were so pretty.

Re: Formal dinner sets

My everyday plates are Wedgwood, but I have extras with bowls etc that come out when we have guests. I also have a 6 setting diner set that’s vintage mos bros and was recently gifted a 16 setting dinner set that’s white with a gold trim it’s never been opened though.

Re: Formal dinner sets

Oh my god, I saw that one too .. fell in love with it, asked around from friends if they knew anyone had it and turned out that one of the girl’s nand had it , so I asked about what it was like storing them and using them. She said they are definitely easy to store , but she is getting bored of the same shape . So if its a set you are looking to buy , think a good few times , these last for ages and you might get bored soon.

I guess she meant , with round dishes you tend to match new things more easily :hmmm:

But I love that set ..

Re: Formal dinner sets

I have one formal dinner set for a 12 place setting. And one smaller corelle one for every day use.
I don’t like plates that are heavy in weight, so have an eye on fine bone china one, but can’t afford it yet

Re: Formal dinner sets

Dinner sets are too good in USA and even in middle east. Even now Pakistan has so much variety but Australia seriously sucks in quality and variety of things. I cant find good glasses here, not even good creative salt and pepper shakers with napkin holder. The things I want to decore my kitchen with I have either got from US or from Pakistan. Believe me Pakistan has such nice stuff nowadays. I have heard UK also has really cute stuff but Australia is ufffffffffffff so bad for it. Dinner sets are usually white or some colourful one of Maxwell which are not very fine. My ammi has her dinner sets all from KSA and they are superb superb really. Australia is the worst country on earth from shopping point of view
