Foreign Dramas

Anyone here got a favourite or one to recommend?

I’m totally hooked on the Turkish series ‘Fatmagulun Sucu Ne?’ (‘What was Fatmagul’s Fault?’).. I’ve only watched upto ep 26 so far tho..

It’s about a girl who’s gang-raped then has to marry one of the rapists (except it turns out he didn’t actually attack her, ‘just’ stood by but didn’t stop his friends from doing it).. All the twists and turns are brilliant and it’s had me in tears plenty of times..

Re: Foreign Dramas

u understand turkish or watching it with subtitles?

Re: Foreign Dramas

^With subtitles (it's also on Youtube) but have picked up quite a bit of Turkish vocab just thru watching it :D

Was surprised at how many of their words seem to be 'borrowed' from other languages as well..

Re: Foreign Dramas

oh acha

Re: Foreign Dramas

I fail to understand how subtitles can convey the message as powerfully as the real words to bring you to tears.
Most of the times the subtitles twist and ruin the real meaning of something being said in movies. I myself have laughed many a times on a sad situation while watching Hindi movies with subtitles. :bummer:

Re: Foreign Dramas

awww you cry over these dramas. :hugz:

Re: Foreign Dramas

**
With pictures as well?** In one scene you can see the girl, Fatmagul, is about to be raped (they show her being attacked but obviously no nudity and in one part she is just laying there with her bf’s handkerchief stuffed in her mouth to stop her screaming and there are just tears running down her cheeks)..

Like a lot of ppl I’ve also cried plenty of times seeing things in real-life even from a distance without hearing any words at all.. Sometimes just the image is enough to get to you..

Re: Foreign Dramas

Point well taken.

Re: Foreign Dramas

Hareem, I've cried loadsss of times watching this Turkish drama and I'm not even one of those ppl who's excessively soft or emotional (imo)..

Anyway, it's a brilliant series for anyone who's curious.. Apparently it's shown in the Middle-East as well..

Re: Foreign Dramas

I have watched one foreign drama (it is also a Turkish one, has 54 episodes), called Asmali Konak. It was good.

Re: Foreign Dramas

Thanks for all the suggestions, will defo check them out

Can’t bring myself to watch the Fatmagulun Sucu Ne season finale with the 4 rapists in court yet.. Seems she now might have fallen for the one she was forced to marry and he’s proving his love to her by going to the police and making a full confession - also of course dropping the others in it.. He also protected her from the crazy ex-fiance who wanted to kill her and him both for having an ‘affair’ after dumping her after the rape (nice way to treat someone you supposedly loved )..

Have cried buckets watching the last few episodes..

Anyone who is curious and wants to check it out tho here is the very first episode with english subs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xg0lGdJvixA&feature=related

More episodes and subtitles here: http://www.whatisfatmagulsfault.com/p/where-are-previous-episodes.html

Am going to start watching the Turkish soap ‘Ask-i Memnu’ (‘Forbidden Love’) as well as have heard it’s really good.. (and the villain Behlul is so fit! looks like David Beckham).. Can’t seem to find English translations of many of the episodes, just Turkish to Arabic or Greek or whatever.. I think this one is/was also widely aired in the Middle East..
