For Urdu speaking members...

This thread is more or less a spin-off of ‘Question for Urdu speakers’.

All the talk about different areas of India (where Urdu is spoken) got me wondering where the Urdu speaking members on GS are from.

I believe I’m half-half. My maternal side is from Delhi & Badayon, whereas my paternal side is from UP.

Sadiyah, no. I was just referring to the connections b/w alahbadis. They seem to be everywhere and usually can be tracked down thru nanas/dadis/etc. I dont know Dania as yet, but who knows -- she might just end up being my nana's cousin's great grand daughter.. :)

We've got a real variety here in terms of where most of our ancestors belonged to in India. :)

X_Comm., I get what you're saying. :)

ravage, I'd love to hear your Urdu :p

Re: For Urdu speaking members...

we r not urdu speaking like you ppl r refering ......but the people who don't know us much , often assume we r 'ahl-e-zuban' :)

infact my husband still teases me saying if i'm from luckhnow...:o (he himself is our distant relative) ....it was only after marriage , i learned to speak proper panjaabi .....:)

in the area we live in .....urdu speaking ppl are not really good urdu speakers .....specially their accent got mixed with local ....n its totally ruined now!!

Re: For Urdu speaking members...

sadiyah, i've lived 4 years in NWFP, 2 years in punjab, and 3 years since mostly with punjabis (some of whom by the way make fun of me when i say Qeema instead of Keema). my urdu is regarded as a bit of a let down in my household.
