aaaaand you totally missed the point.
I put health insurance in there. The sense I get from the thread is we’re talking about a “roof over your head” and “food”. $15k covers that anywhere in the US. You might not get a beautiful suburban mansion or gourmet food cooked by five star chefs, but you’ll live with a roof and food. If you’re earning $16k, your earning $1k more than you really need, so in my book, yea your living large. $1k larger than the $15k guy, who is getting along just fine too, just not living it up.
What country do you live in?
For a family of 2, 15K isn’t even the poverty level in most states in the US!

Now before you go accusing people of wanting to live large, nobody wants to “just get by” and live in utter poverty. Most people do have standards of living!
