For the guys: shaving

What do you use to shave (your face)?

Opinions on wet (manual) shave vs dry (electronic) shave?

I find that because of my dark hair, I have a 5 o’clock shadow at 9am… any tips for a closer shave?

Re: For the guys: shaving

seriously?!

you all have beards then?

Re: For the guys: shaving

I shave while taking a shower. Its easy... and skin is more shave-able.
I shave on alternate days.

Re: For the guys: shaving

If a day old beard, I do electric shave .. anything more than that, I go with creme and razor. I dont use gel, it leaves my skin dry.

Re: For the guys: shaving

I use shaving gel and Gillette Fusion Razor . Make sure that you use sharp blade and if possible skip shaving every other day and over the weekends . I use After Shave and if feel dry then moisturizing cream .

Re: For the guys: shaving

can you get as close shave with electric razors as you can with manual?

some ideas, not in chronological order :)

1- go for a wet shave

2- use a badger brush

3- use a preshave oil

4- use a good shaving cream- does not have to be expensive.. try proraso, an italian classic.

5- do it in or after shower

6- make sure you stretch the skin as you are shaving

7- your face may be a littlr puffy in the morning, so wait for it to get back to normal before you shave

8- a good razor..i wont ay a straight edge one which can be very hard to use for a daily basis, but the old safety razors, i think still give a closer shave then even the quattro or fusion. look for merkurs.

9- once you spread the shaving creme and lather up, give it some time, maybe a minute to soften the beard

lastly, carry a good electric razor and do a touch up later in the day if needed

I have had some good experiences with norelco spectra,
done properly, and using a good electric razor which is well maintained, it can give you a phenomenal shave.

most people do not maintain their electric shavers properly and dont use them properly which gives subpar results.

electric razor manufacturers claim that with electric razor u can get a shave closer than with a wet shave because it cuts hair ‘under’ the skin.

here is a good article on electric shaving

I dont use electric shaver except for touch ups, because i like wet shaves, its a very zen experience, and i think that wet shave actually is faster than an electric shave , the ratio of time:results is better for wet shaves for me.

Re: For the guys: shaving

For me Electric shave is good when I am already in a business suit lets say. I attended the morning session, and before going back to the afternoon one, I do a quick electric shave so to avoid any nicks or cuts.

I don't shave but try the following too:

  • Splash u're face with cold water, this will reduce any puffiness
  • Lather-up really well and rinse u're blade often.
  • Hold u're skin taut for a closer shave.
  • Follow-up with an aftershave balm to soothe any nicks/cuts and calm u're skin (one with aloe vera is great)

:rotfl: @ explanation

Jub kaheen “pappu” bun ker jana hota hai tu I use Gel + Gellet MachIII else for daily use, my Norelco Reflex Action (electronic) rocks !

Awww .. Gina Bhai has a beard ...

^ I knew that was coming-up! That's right, I don't shave...I bleach :@:

Re: For the guys: shaving

I claimed the joke as quickly as I could. I also knew that if I dont, some one else would.

Bleach? :konfused:

Re: For the guys: shaving

shave small area at a time and rinse the blade, it lasts longer...this is what beauty expert said on Oprah's shows. she also mentioned dont follow the shaving adz, cuz thats not a way to shave.

Re: For the guys: shaving

Can someone recommend a good preshave oil? For men...
