I feel somehow kind of uncomfortable to be posting this on GS but I really need to know!
I’ve heard some experienced pakistani women saying that using water to clean, shower, bath during your days makes your body fill with air, hence makes you look fat. …what is this myth? True or false, I don’t really believe this as hygienic is more important for me as looking skinny.

so so far most of you have said its nonsense, not true ect .. okay don’t need to shoot me, like I said I did not really believe it but it’s somehow suprisingly that many females from the older generation believe this and not only this but also do not eat certain things or do/not do certain things during your periods to keep the pain away … I wonder if they talk from their experience and one day we may be like them and the next generation will stamp us like old fashioned or too precatious.
With regards to rice and shwoering, you’re not supposed to swim/shower directly after eating.
Now thats something ahem close to being nonsense, where did u pick this one, i would like sciencfic proof about this.
Catty/saadia,
The logic is not to swim after eating as this is the time when chances of getting cramp are greatly increased and drowning is a real possibility leading to loss of life. Now not showering after eating is a new one on me…care to elborate?
Care to elaborate on what not to eat? There may be some truth to it as the Indus civilization was very advanced and had a great grasp of medicine.
One of my friends is a Chinese American who has interest in ancient Chinese medicine. She told me that fruits and vegetable are classified as "cold" and "warm" i believe, if i remember correctly... Anyways, cool vegetables such as watermelon prevent the body from bleeding so it is advised that a woman while menstruating avoid "cold" vegetables & fruits. If the body does not get rid of all of the accumulated cells in teh uterus, there is a greater chance of endometrial cancer (according to her) . I myself haven't read up on this so just sharing what she said.
But I would be interested in hearing about what vegetables you were talking about.
I think the common wisdom is that after you have eaten a meal, let your digestive system work on it in peace and don't do too many strenous activities for atleast 30 minutes. That will help the food to digest properly and keep your digestive system in proper shape.
Not sure how it all interacts with menstural cycles.

If the Indus valley civilisation was so advanced, it would still be around today.
I don't trust the medicinal beliefs of a civilisation that wasn't smart enough to survive!
