Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

take rooney out, play defoe and crouch up. in the limited time that defoe played he had more of an impact than rooney has had in the last 2 games.

the current formula is not working, it can work, but people are just not putting forth the effort.
they are making some idiotic typical english team mistakes, like fouling people just outside the box, how many free kicks did algeria have at 30 yards? do u know how dangerous that is..why is our defense facing own goalkeeper half the time, running with the attacker, where is the tackle where is the steal, where is blocking passing routes, just wait to block drives into the box?? absolutely horrible.

I have not seen any england team play as bad as this ever. hell we could have thrown in the u21 team and they would have worked harder.

half ass pass from terry which james had to rush and save, a bullet pass by carragher to james which was dangerous, other really pathetic moves.

I am an england fan, have been, am and will be, and if it takes yet another early exit to wake the hell up then so be it.

out of form I can understand, lack of effort is what I cant understand. and he simply did not try..what is with getting frustrated for not getting the passes...how about going back getting the ball and going by the defenders, if long balls and tap ins is what is being sought then replace rooney with crouch.

I simply dont understand why crouch waited so damn long to bring in coruch and defoe, 10 minutes into the second half if he saw his plan was not working with the current wankers he should have just sent in others.

Only players who were worth playing in a worldcup team today were james, barry, and maybe cole

agreed, I can understand if he had not scored but has been trying like hell to do so, but he was not, and not only that he was not good at anything that he did, controlling, passing, nothing. hell he may have had better luck if he tried kicking fast ones from 30 yards out even.

remember linekar? read up
and even shearer with his off and on temper was otherwise a gentleman

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

I am sooo enjoying this WC so far. Both England and Germany got a ‘beating’ yesterday. Two of my LEAST fav. teams :hehe:

Now I hope the above statement doesn’t come back and bite me in a$$ later today when Holland plays!

:hula:

difficult one with Rooney, personally I would drop him as his performance has been really bad. Still play 4-4-2 with crouch and Defoe upfront. If one of them does not perform than bring on Rooney as a sub. capello did hint that he might change the 4-4-2 combination so lets see.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

What an abysmal performance, worst under cappello era!

For the next game, I hope Gerrard plays just behind Rooney and Joe Cole starts in place of that truck Emile Heskey. Gerrard and Lampard were the only two playing and were seen actually trying!

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

I hope Rooney doesn't play in the next game. Useless twit.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

Well lets admit and realize that he is not going to be dropped.. the more realistic scenario would be the axing of Heskey and you will see how Gerrard will perform in an advanced role... might just spring Rooney into action as well.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

I just cannot believe that Joe Cole has NOT played one minutes of football in this WC despite being the most creative player in England team! plus Heskey was taken off much later than he should have been.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

Lets see what Capello does...

Capello is a great coach...but the problem is that England has good individual players but as a team they can't play.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

same here saby, that’s what he was taken for, as an attacking threat he offers something different, where late in games he should be coming on, Capello’s been reluctant.

…in other news, we beat Australia in RU today, woo hoo!!!

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

Slovenia.

TAKE HESKEY OUT. The useless player that he is. Honestly, he's more closer to the ground than the ball. ¬¬

Rooney out too, he has failed to perform in both games...don't even bother in the third.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

sweet if U shush !!!

don't know nothing about football ..

they both will play and perform in next game specially Rooney

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

joe cole will defintely play next game, formation will be changed, upson in for carragher, barry stays, gerrard in a more advanced role, rooney center, maybe dafoe. milneras well. coming in as a sub potentially, and we may see carragher play

expect to see them come roaring out of the gates in a few days..

England players urge Capello to pick Joe Cole

**The England squad lobby for tactical switch and inclusion of midfielder as tension grows over manager’s methods **

Suggestions of tension between Fabio Capello and his team hardened yesterday with reports from within the England camp that senior players are unhappy with aspects of the Italian’s preparation, his team selection and tactics.
Having allowed their reservations to stray beyond the team room, the players have undermined their relationship with the manager and raised doubts over his future.
After England’s abject performance in the scoreless draw against Algeria on Friday, Capello was asked to comment on his position and merely said that after two games at the World Cup, he could not yet consider the question. Bookmakers have made Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson favourites to succeed Capello should England fail to beat Slovenia at Port Elizabeth on Wednesday and the FA move to replace the manager.
**The Italian is unlikely to receive total backing from his players, many of whom are unimpressed by his performance. Neither are they likely to be enthused by Capello’s criticism of Wayne Rooney’s form and his insistence that the player’s problems are psychological.
“Wayne is a good player, some times,” Capello said. “He is always dangerous for the other teams. But he lost a lot of balls, a lot of passes.” Asked if Rooney was fully fit, the manager replied: “Yes, completely fit. He’s perfect. It’s not a problem of this. The problem is in the mind.” **
**Some senior players believe Capello got his team selection and tactics wrong by picking Emile Heskey as Wayne Rooney’s strike partner and opting for a 4-4-2 formation. According to sources, the players would prefer Joe Cole, inset, to be picked on the left side of a 4-2-3-1 formation that would see Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard play as holding midfielders and Steven Gerrard directly behind Rooney. **
The players also believe Capello’s decision to announce his team only two hours before kick-off militates against good preparation. First indications that they were unhappy came from goalkeeper David James, who said in a candid interview after Friday’s game that he knew he was in the team just minutes before boarding the team coach to the stadium. When told that Capello attributed England’s poor performances in South Africa mainly to stage fright, James hinted that he didn’t agree.
Senior players are believed to be surprised by the Italian’s use of Shaun Wright-Phillips as a substitute in the team’s opening two games and his refusal to involve Cole in midfield.
Some players were also disappointed that Capello went ahead with a planned rest day in Cape Town yesterday. They wanted the squad to return to their Rustenburg base to prepare for Wednesday’s must-win match. What is certain is that the relationship between Capello and his England team is nowhere near as harmonious as had been presumed.
On what was supposed to be a day for players to spend time with their partners, some gathered in the team room at the Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town and Gerrard was seen to address his teammates at one point. Capello only returned to the hotel in early evening.
His management style has long been autocratic and he will not react sympathetically to reports of dissent from his players. “The thing about Fabio,” his former boss at AC Milan, Silvio Berlusconi, once said, “is that he does not do dialogue”, and England’s players are unlikely to get what they want by publicly criticising their manager.
There are echoes of Italia 90 in these latest developments. Then, England also drew their opening two group games and a group of senior players went to see manager Bobby Robson to demand a change in tactics and formation. Mark Wright was brought in as a sweeper, England won their final group game, 1-0 against Egypt, and went on to reach the semi-finals, only to lose to Germany on penalties.
Unaware of disenchantment among the players yesterday, the Football Association tried to end the controversy over Rooney’s criticism of England’s fans after the game in Cape Town. “I am as passionate about the England team as anyone,” he said in a prepared statement. “Last night, on reflection, I said things in the heat of the moment that came out of the frustration of both our performance and the result.
The most important thing now is to regroup, be positive and work towards winning the game on Wednesday. To do this, the players will need the support of the fans more than ever. For my part, I apologise for any offence caused by my actions at the end of the game.”
Latest betting: 9-2 Argentina; 5-1 Brazil, Spain; 7-1 Holland; 8-1 Germany; 10-1 England; 14-1 Italy; 28-1 Portugal; 33-1 Mexico, Uruguay; 40-1 Ivory Coast.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

eb- i dont put much trust in this. capellos tactics made this lot qualify after they failed to qualify for european cup. there were no issues with naming team 2 hours before and all.

buncha whiney ass punks. I would agree that some of fabio's substitutions and the timing of those left me baffled but to think that 11 guys played without any heart any brain and any 'anything' because one or two players were not the right choice is rubbish.

can fabio send in a different starting lineup, sure, could he use a different formation, sure, but in the end he cant go and kick and pass the ball for the team.

The team has to take responsibility, all these excuses about boredom, not knowing team until 2 hrs before etc etc are not sufficient to explain the pathetic display. French seem to have the same curse this year, and I believe the curse is a sense of entitlement and an expectation of coddling by the manager.

I kind of see that coming too.. but carragher is banned for the next game...

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

yeah thats why i said upson for carragher, which is confirmed now. last sentence I did not mean carragher but carrick.

so looks like some players are unhappy with fabio, john terry being one, and looks like they were trying to do a france like move that was swatted down.

You know what, I couldnt be bothered if terry is still pissy about not being captain, or they dont like fabio's choices or tactics, it would be a different thing if they gave it their all and it was not working because fabio had the tactics or mix wrong. but they did not even try, and simply can not claim that just because cole was not in the rest of the team could not play, thats hogwash. inclusion or exclusion of one key player may change the dynamics of the game but not make the team look like a pub team.

they are bored, they are this, they are that...fine, got it, maybe there should be some lightening up, but that does not translate into such a drop in effort. if it was some attempt to either get their buddies on the field or to force capello to allow partying, i dont think that will happen, from what I have seen of fabio, he will let the team fail and leave rather than be strong armed by players into challenging his authority.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

Cruch time, its all or nothing now. my prediction: 1-0.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

England playing much better.

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

Finally England firing on all cylinders....

They need to score 1 more goal....to give them a 2-0 victory and so they can top their group

Re: Football World Cup 2010 - Group C

Yay! England are through!

and so are USA!
