There’s no diversity in England’s midfield… Lennon and Wright-Philips seem to be the only natural wide players. Why not throw in Ashley Young or Theo Walcott, hmmm?!
yeah upson was a little bit of a surprise, but fabio had to make do with what he had, people are still ticked off about picking heskey over bent.
walcott and lennon are very much alike, but walcott is just not playing well, out of form due to injuries.
I think fabio had to factor in experience as well, thats why he had been holding off until he heard about barry’s health. brining in carragher as well, Beckham was a loss, Owen kinda fizzled.
as far as 5 defenders, king will not play every game I think, and upson, was the an of the match when england beat germany in 2008 2-1. he is injury prone and has been throughout his career, but he is versatile and can plug in left or right as needed. he probably will not be starting many games though.
For those who may not know, Rio our captain was injured during training and will miss the world cup, Dawson is en route and should be flying out today to join the squad tomorrow. Big blow to be losing our captain.
How so, he's our best defender, he was voted in the best 11, in the last world cup. His experience in the champions league and big matches makes him a valueable asset.
When Rio has a good partner, he's awesome and really commands the area. Always gives a solid performance and definitely one of the best English defenders at the moment, along with Terry and Carragher. I think some people can't get past the fact that he plays for Man U, hence the unnecessary hatred.
I am surprised Fabio picked Carrick.. Parker was in MUCH better form and a more complete player than Carrick is. and Carrick has a TERRIBLE season! Parker is very unlucky... Fabio went back on his own words and picked carrick who was not even regular for ManU for much of the season
and I personally think Rio's injury can be a blessing in disguise. He isnt the same anymore as was evident throughout the season. King will do a decent job.
