Food ideas

Well now that I got defrosting and not sticking to the pan down to an art :@: can yall gimme ideas as to what i can make? it has to be something that I can easily take to school, that won’t spoil if i leave it in a locker for a few hours and wont have too offensive an odor to anyone else.

ok get-a-crakkin :chai:

Re: Food ideas

Lunchables! I think they dont spoil :)
How about karailay ka salen with roti! I think karailay dont go bad easily outside
:D

Re: Food ideas

pasta
home made pizza (you could use frozen crust)
some rice dish like daal chawal
sandwiches with deli meat or chix/egg/tuna salad?

Re: Food ideas

Yeah pasta, noddles (desi style???), or chicken sandwich are good ideas.

other than that... cold chicken salad, hummus with pita????, veggie sandwich are all great options.
I love Boca veggie patties, very delicious and nutritious... makes a really healthy yummy sandwich with pickles, mustard, a couple of sliced tomatoes, lettuce... in a wholewheat bun or bread. Takes about ten minutes to fix.

Or how about Shami or Chapli Kebab with wholewheat bread slices????

Re: Food ideas

stir fry frozen veges. in a dropof oil end with lots of crushed pepper and a lil salt..

sqeeze some lemon :yummy:

may be ad chicken pieces for ur likeness

Re: Food ideas

Oh yeah i forgot, shami kababs are a good idea and so are chicken or beef hamburger patties. Buy teh frozen kind if you want. Stirfries are also great.

I have to pack a lunch for hubs everyday and this is a good thread to exchange ideas since i am running out of them :bummer:

Re: Food ideas

lol and what about the smell...lol

Re: Food ideas

i take zeera rice... sometimes with chicken tikka, fried fish, an egg, or any dry sabzi. i never put a salan with my rice coz it gets soggy and i absolutely hate that. other options are mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, pasta w/ qeema, steamed veggies with garlic butter sauce, potato/chicken/fish burgers, hakka noodles or fried rice, a fruit salad, cereal and a bottle of soy milk.

Re: Food ideas

i opt for chicken fajitas or vege-curry in pitta pockets/tortilla wraps - also cold pasta salads as well as chinese style chicken chow-mein and asian masala macaroni.

Re: Food ideas

smell...what smell...its aroma of the karailay....makes for a breath of heaven...hehe

Re: Food ideas

but seriously can someone post a recipe for asian masala macaroni. I always make it the standard way or rather italian way i guess. But never made it with a desi touch?

Sara do you have access to Microwave/toaster at school? If so you can literally take just about anything, cuz food wouldnt spoil so quickly by lunch.

Re: Food ideas

most of the healthy food options for lunch have smell...the rest are pasta, rice, burgers that are all unhealthy for you to eat 'everyday' so try to take salads if you really want to eat and have energy bars/meal replacement drinks....glucose biscuits work too. That's what I do...I don't take lunch to school everyday and neither does hubs coz he wants to maintain healthy weight so he takes an energy drink at lunch and when he comes home we have a good khana around 5:30/6pm.

Re: Food ideas

make chicken jelfrezi or chicken shashlick , chicken sheeh kabab, none of them smell like all other desi food ,every age, gender and ethnicity love them.

Re: Food ideas

Keema macaroni?? Ooo ooo my MIL makes that and it was good…and i made it too…what i did was brown some onions, then add garlic and ginger paste (preferably both but only one is okay too), when its brown, add salt and haldi and shan masala and then add the keema and cook it, and when its cooked, add the tomatoes and when the tomatoes melted…uhm… eat it?

ok i forget when ur sposed to add the tmoatoes either before or after hte keema :bummer:

Re: Food ideas

^ aaaaaaaa hello
did forget to put macaroni in it???

Re: Food ideas

That sounds alot like the "hamburger macaroni casserole" that I make, its really yum! Brown meat, onions, garlic and chilis. Add a large can or 2 smaller cans of crushed tomatoes. Adjust and add spices to taste. Let it come to a simmer and then mix in a 1-lb box of elbow mac (cooked). Stir it up and then completely cover the top with shredded cheddar cheese. Let it simmer till the cheese is all melted and serve or refrigerate.

Re: Food ideas

lol i was just talking abt how to c ook the meat... the macaroni is really easy and its easy to put em together.

Re: Food ideas

:( ok getting hungry again...all i have is a stupid grilled chicken breast on whole wheat with lettuce, tomatoe, onions, shredded carrot, muenster cheese, alfaalfa sprouts...and some light ranch dressing :)

Re: Food ideas

ack :( rabbit food. Give me a big steak and a baked potato with sour cream and butter any time lol! rabbit food is for ... well, rabbits.

Re: Food ideas

mama are u saying im a rabbit?
ribbit...ribbit
I do love steak but don't know how to make it! Plus I can only afford to eat rabbit food until I lose the excess pounds :)
