food & culture

Re: food & culture

Daal Makhni = Punjab, I think it was Rahim Yar Khan, where they serve special daal makhini. some of our seniors suggested to go for it, when we are visiting RYK. Then came a comment that it was not daal makhini , but paseene wali daal, as the cook was sprinkling paseena like taRka. so we didn’t go for it :bummer:

Re: food & culture

Re: food & culture

Re: food & culture

Daal Makhani (Kaali Daal) and Murgh Makhani are like two of the most common North Indian dishes you find in desi restaurants. I even find those in South Indian restaurants sometimes. Here goray and kalay people think Desi food=Butter Chicken and Naan. Hahahahaha.

Re: food & culture

:hehe:

there are so many dishes and cooking styles in india…
but some places are famous..in north india punjab and delhi are on front…
gujrat,rajasthan and maharashtra also have many dishes to offer…
and south india have there own style of cooking…
only bengali cuisine is famous from east indian states..i dont know any famous dish from odisha or north eastern states…

Re: food & culture

@Ninja
Yep. I'm a Punjabi, but my dad is from Bangalore. So my favorite food is Idli Sambhar, vadas, dosas. Those kind of things. The east food is kinda interesting. If you think Andhra and Tamil/Kerala food is hot, those guys near china eat plates of fire. They eat lots of fish and potatoes in Bengal side and of course Calcutta is famous for Indo Chinese.

Re: food & culture

you should eat maharashtrian food in vidarbha region...too hot
i dont find south indian dishes hot as compared to maharashtrian food....
so you cook sometimes?as you are a dedicated food loving person...:)

Re: food & culture

Idli sambhar with dosa :yummy: I prefer eating dosa with coconut sauce they serve with it.

Re: food & culture

@Ninja
Yep. I cook all the time. Like I said, my uncle owns an Indo Chinese restaurant in bangalore. And my Dadi was famous in our whole kandhan for being the best cook. We used to fly her in to our houses for parties to supervise the kitchens. She'd make biryani in the house and the dilli side of the family would make an excuse to come visit bangalore hahahaha.

I was just cooking earlier tonight. Made some Chicken Boti Tikka, Prawn Skewers (with garlic and chinese flavors) and some chili shrimp. I want to go to Bombay some day and go try out the street foods.

Re: food & culture

@Lili
OMGGGG YES THAT COCONUT CHUTNEYYYYYYY IS SO GOOD. My dad and I go to this Tamil restaurant near our house (ALL the desi people in our area are Tamils or Hyderabadis!) And they make these big big Idlis with fresh steaming hot Sambhar and fresh Coconut Chutney. I go there at least once a week.

Re: food & culture
