I don’t know how busy and crazy your lives are. Right now, compared to things I was doing before, and probably will be doing in the near future, I am not that busy. ( Prolly why I post ad nauseum here )
But the problem is that I find it so hard to just take a chill pill, relax back, and think about … nothing.
Some people can do it. They can sit there for hours and just stare off in blank space. Or they can at least do it with no worry on their mind. Me - I’m friggin’ worried about something at least 30 times per day. Its really aggravating, because i CANT relax.
I had the ROUGHEST day at my job today. I’ve come home, and all I’ve done is either talk about the problems I had today, and I just got done with some documentation and emailing. I mean really. I can’t sit back and relax. I even did not bring any work home with me for the weekend, and I’m still sitting here and thinking about work issues. Every second of the day I’m planning on what to do next and how to solve this problem or that problem at work. Whatever I do for work - it consumes my every living second.

All of us are just problem solving creatures. In fact, every human being is nothing but a problem solving animal. We face a set of problems everyday and solve some of them and then again next day we're ready to face another similar day. So rather than feeling overwhelmed, just enjoy it. Of course, after a hard day, you must not ignore to reward yourself by going to some good restaurant or hanging out with some one or pursuing hobbies or things which make you relaxed.
Never, never put yourself under too much of pressure to meet deadlines. If you don't meet deadlines, then what's going to happen at the most? I always think that nobody is going to hang me if I don't meet deadlines so I never put myself under any kind of strain. When I am under any pressure then I think of this song which releases all my tension:
Why not try meditation? It's good for calming yourself and getting rid of stress, and you can concentrate on just about anything, e.g. emptiness and develop better awareness.
2=i doubt that,i think only veggies can do that, there is always something in the mind, something people r focusing on
3=some people thrive under pressure n challenge, thats a very good attribute i think.Presence of a good man/woman depending on ur sexuality can take the load off ur mind sometimes.some people may also think it sad that u have nothing else to focus on in ur life.u have to make conscious efforts to chill, like find some hobby which demands enuff energy expenditure to allow u to switch off ur mind,my friend, she power walks, another works on glass painting etc.maybe u shud find a more demanding job .u prolly have lots of pent up energy.
4=i dont believe there is any such thing as focusing on nothing, its a calming thought, ever tried focusing/meditation on a flower, imagining every petal, the details and one day u even smell it all of a sudden.believe me it happens.
i never focus on nothing, cause i think so much, but when i really need to relax, i think about my dreamplace...i mean it is my secret garden, i think about it everytime i feel too much pressure and take a deep breath, and listen to some music. If you have that much energy that you can't relax, then do some sport...personally i love dancing and weight lifting, i feel better afterwards...
honestly you can not think objectively about your work as long as you are stressed...forget it for this week end! go out, meet friends, watch movie...forget all untill monday!
Well hobbies there are, but I'm not living in an area right now that has too much to offer nature wise. I'm usually a nature-oriented person - love to go hiking.
i have the same problem, but parks can sometimes do the trick if i try hard to forget the city around:D, and concentrate on little things like a pond (sure it ain’t like a lake) and flowers…or birds
well in life there are allways two ways at looking at things:
you either see the bottle half empty
or half full…
you may see how you miss nature in this small park trapped in the big city
or you may see the heaven of nature preserved in the metropolitan area,
trying hard to see half full bottles instead of half empty ones is a nice start towards less stress:flower1:
Yeah I already know my pessimism gets me more stressed out than necessary. But no matter how hard I try, I can't see the positives in things. The negatives are just too risky to ignore.
what do you risk?
what do you have to loose?
none of us will take our money to paradise after death…so what really counts in this world?
why do you feel insecure? are you so weak?
try to think about this questions…i reckon that i got far more fearless after realising how much i could do myself…people around us tend to put us down and make us feel weak and fragile..especially when you are a girl…and your mom and dad keep on telling to be carefull of this and that…but you know sometimes you got to go out and throw all your fears to the garbage bin and kick some ass you strong lady!!
I know its not weakness, because the stuff I've had to go through and the way I've managed myself up until now shows me that I am not weak. Not perfect, but not weak. If anything, too strong for my own good.
No, its that I see the risks as being more likely than they really might be. And I've always been a perfectionist about things, and one way I do that is keep in mind all the risks and either avoid them or overcome them. I obsess with preventing myself from falling into any error, because I hate it when things I'm doing get messed up.
Hence why I come home from, work for example, and all I can think about is how to prevent against anything from going wrong. Some here on GS call it paranoia and I think its true.
Anyways, less psychoanalysis of me, and more on the real question - is it really possible to sit there and think of nothing? I'd love to do it if it were possible.
unfortunately it is not an easy task, and relaxing is not possible unless you take care of your deep self! i don’t want to get into your privacy…so i suggest you to think about your worries and stress causes, try to prioritize things…
and also there are diffrent types of people, with diffrent reactions towards same life situations…for example it is a fact that after the second world war, those who survived long life whereas they had been prisoners in the horrible nazi camps, were “resilient” people, which means people with the ability to forget bad things…and see life beutifully…most of the people who are happy at the old age of 100 years or more are this kind of people…
and i don’t know if you can become one if you were not born like that…
well ummm i used to leave the house, bought smokes n sat on the busstop, watching the cars go by.buss.after sometime i felt i cud do without this whole process.now i just turn off my brain wen i dont want to handle something and its like nothings wrong n i go back to my work.i become blank regarding the episode.some say it has made me cruel in the sense that i have no feelings but hey i dont get too many migraines now so works for me.
I have found two ways to focus on nothing when I am stressed out.....
Do something strenuous. Like physical activity.....go to the gym, swim some laps or just get on the treadmill with the music loud.
Play a video game that gets you totally enthralled.
I would have suggested meditation, but that's hard to do since it requires focus.....which you're not likely to have if you are stressing about something else.
For me, focusing on nothing and emptying my so called mind is almost, no wait, actually impossible. Even exercising, listening to music, none of that works. Maybe your putting too much thought into thinking about nothing, I know I used to do that and it drove me mad! I sometime stress out when I have nothing to stress out about, so I go out of my way to find something to stress out about.
When you find something that helps, let me know please.
