sadly floods have become a regular occurrence. Chitral is flooded for the past week, kpk government is no where to be seen. Maybe the ministers and CM is busy in his eid vacations. Again army is on ground to alleviate the sufferings of the masses in the absence of district and provincial governments. Imran khan will be visiting tomorrow (8th day of the flood). Flood waters are moving towards Punjab and Sindh, the leadership of both the provinces is out of the country. May Allah protect the people as nothing is expected from the rulers.
Re: Flooding season
Maybe politicians are bored for something that happens fairly regularly?
Btw, what happened to musharraf's canal management project? I think one part of it was to line the canals so water doesn't seep into ground and the second was to install telemetry system so sindh's complaint can be properly alleviated that not enough downstream water allows arabian sea to push in from the south. I guess that we don't have a good marsh protection system in sindh either with no protection of mangroves.
In a country like Pakistan which has drought and flood cycles, there should be a better job by the irrigation department(s) to properly store and then divert excess water to the indian ocean. If israel can recycle waste water for irrigation, then I don't know why Pakistan can't maximize the storage of flood water and proper drainage to the sea.

PM directs authorities to expedite relief activities in flood-hit areas - The Express Tribune
Army chief General Raheel Sharif directed the army to make an all-out effort to help and assist the people affected by the floods, an ISPR press statement read.
All Corps Headquarters in their respective areas of responsibility are monitoring the flood situation and preparations have been made to meet any eventuality, the statement added. Field Commanders have been instructed to carryout reconnaissance of area that could see flooding.
In Chitral meanwhile, the Army continued its rescue operation on the sixth day in some of the worst-hit areas of the region. Army and Frontier Corps, with the help of civil administrations, have already distributed 16 tons of ration, while troops have evacuated more than 73 stranded individuals from Garm Chashma, Koragh and Bomboreet. The army has stationed two MI-17 helicopters in Chitral for relief and rescue operations. Frontier Corps have donated 100 tons of ration and food items for the flood affectees in Chitral, which is being despatched from Peshawar.
Further, Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Hidayatur Rehman visited Chitral to monitor the relief and rescue efforts being carried out by Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps.

I don't think the cleaning of canals has been carried out for ages, similarly the bunds need to be strengthened. Deforestation has played its part in this menacing outcome as well.
Re: Flooding season
Imran khan and Nawaz sharif Brought the army chief in the limelight in the wake of the dharna, he has capitalised and now has better ratings as compared to them. It seems as if the army has been able to reverse their perception during the past one year.

I hope the savior of Pakistan would do something about the 2010 victims of flooding as well.
Still marooned after 2010 floods in Pakistan - Pakistan - DAWN.COM
Five years after Pakistan’s worst floods, thousands of displaced people continue to live makeshift lives in a slum on the outskirts of Karachi with the government doing little to help them.
It has been five years since the devastating floods of 2010 that drove Rubina Hisbani out of her village, five years of living like a refugee in a makeshift hut near Pakistan’s commercial capital Karachi.
But, Rubina is no closer to going back home. She lives every day without sanitation, drinking water and electricity, trapped in a permanent state of uncertainty and homelessness.
**The 24-year-old mother is not the only one whose life was completely destroyed by the worst floods in Pakistan’s recorded history. About 1,000 families live in the vast scattered slum of Sindhabad, which runs parallel to the Super Highway, a critical artery and one of the country’s busiest roads that connects Karachi to the rest of the country.
****The families — who lost everything, including their crops, houses, livestock and even their agricultural land — have been forgotten by the government whose promises of rehabilitation have yielded nothing.
**
Most people are from the agricultural regions of the Sindh province, the region worst affected by the floods. They came in August 2010 when the monsoon-swollen Indus breached its banks and submerged vast swathes of land, affecting up to one-fifth of the country.
