The problem with this whole issue is that it should have been addressed 40 years ago. Reagan tried to deal with it and declared an amnesty, but for decades no one has enforced the immigration rules. Now you have 11 million people, 10.5 million of them are hardworking decent people who just want a job and to feed their kids. You cannot effectively un-ring this bell. but if we really want to solve this we will build a big assed fence, and triple the number of border guards. We could do this in a year if we really want. Nobody is proposing anything more than halfway solutions.
Any plan which does not immediately shut down the border is doomed to fail. And, any plan that does not condemn the "coyotes" who smuggle people in as Human Trafficers is also bound to fail. Build a special jail for the ones who prey on the poor, and never let them go. When those who make human trafficing a business find the business too dangerous or too expensive, then the number of border crossers will slow dramaticly. The number of people who die in hidden compartments, or in a hot desert will drop too.
Then Mexico will have to deal with some of it's problems, rather than depend on a flow of money over the border.
Why not just fine the hell out of anyone using illegal immigrants? Oh that's right, we want our cheap labor.
How convenient ... like you libs let the feds enforce any of the laws that are on the books already... prime example.... it is illegal to cross the border without proper documentation (visa etc) and the person is subject to deportation.... how many democrats will be crying foul if one of these law breaking criminals were sent back.
This bill is ridiculous. I am all for a selective amnesty program where the illegals have to go through background and health checks..just like legal immigrants do. They need to keep govt notified of their whereabouts. They should pay fines, and they should not be getting any benefits that US citizens and legal immigrants dont get.
^ I agree. If they had any intention of correcting the problem they would have targeted businesses who hire illegal immigrants. Oh, that's right, we love those $200,000 2600 square feet homes in the midwest and $2.00 a pint strawberries. Until consumers here are willing to pay more for the lifestyle we enjoy, the problem of illegal workers really cannot be addressed.
Amana, this is a very shortsighted view of this problem. What you need to do is balance these propaganda views to the actual figures of what these illegal criminals cost us. Our socio economic systems is being ruined by their ever expanding population, medical centers/hospitals are going bankrupt, they are already receiving free education in our public schools...over population of students... lower standards of education and to top it all of they have the gall to ask for spanish teachers on tax payers account. Do you want me to continue or do you now understand that these people are here illegally and are leeches ...not the other way around.

I dont' believe that illegal immigrants should be given open access to schools or hospitals, unless it is a matter of life and death. There are already two spanish language immersion public schools in the city we live in.

This war on illegals makes as much sense (and is just as effective) as the bumper sticker mentality of the war on terror and the war on drugs - putting wasted energy into attacking the results instead of the cause. If businesses did not illegaly hire these workers they wouldn't be here by the millions.
