If your actions have hurt someone’s reputation and life than you cannot be considered a friend or a well wisher, it I very common there to blame the entire society rather than self evaluation** In a society where it is frowned up for man and woman to hang and certain males trying their darndest to score companionship of a female.** It seems very shady for you to use this excuse to spend loads of emotional time with your dying friends sister and causing her badnaami, the price of which she is still paying. You used the word emotional dependence that only results from extreme emotional intimacy and is very unhealthy. I am not even emotionally dependent on my own wife and also my children aren’t emotionally dependent on us. When it is friends, sisters, mothers and wives we ought to scrutinize our actions to ensure that we are not going to cause disrepute.

Some people do not have the necessity to clutch to emotional trauma to form a normal relationship with a person from the other sex. If you think that the world is a place where every relationship is viewed through the eyes of se* it is time that you go out and lead a normal life. The emotional baggage of leading the life of a loner might be tough. It is a very small section of the society and I do not have anything but pity for people who think like this.
