In vedic times one can upgrade his caste, in post vedic times caste was determined by birth:(, Brahmin caste was always rigid when it comes to practices of religion and with their genius they always manipulated everything in their favour, their participation in freedom struggle and then ruling politically and bureaucratically shaped India. There status is similar to status of US in the world, no one else deserve number one spot as others have worse qualities, and every one envies but still can’t think like them:D
