Very curious, those from Pakistan will know, why do people say we aren’t supposed to drink milk after eating fish?

It apparently leads to Vitiligo.

^ It does not lead to Vitiligo, it is only said that it leads to Vitiligo which is a myth.

Vitiligo or Leukoderma is a genetic disorder and has nothing to do with fish and milk.

Pakistani doctors have been saying this a lot but it is hard to break such myths.

I always hear that but never knew why! But then an Iron chef on food network used 'em together for a meal, soooo I guess its ok :)

there is a fish in nwfp side which cause this disorder if taken with milk. one of my uncle got it. some also say that it is some kind of bacteria in fish which can cause it. so its better u drink milk after a while...... just to be on the safe side. you never know what u are eating in pakistan

How do ppl know the fish + milk leads to vitiligo, have doctors done a study on it or is it just an old wives tale?? I've never heard any western doctor mention this..

My cousin and uncle have the condition.. I was always told it was genetic but eating certain foods (I think one big no was anything citrus) makes it worse..

Ive been hearing this since I was a kid.

I think it has more to do with digestion than anything else...my aunt told me ke pait kharab hota hai agar machli ke baad aap dood piyo. Ive never heard of the vitiligo theory.

I guess there are some protein in some type of fish which react with the proteins of milk and cause stomach discomforrt…and that’s about it. Whoever came up with the vitilgo theory was :nahi:. Jeez.

Anyway, most fish in US is safe to be consumed with milk. Trust me, I’ve tried this just to disprove the myth. :hehe:

if you drink chocolate milk, its okay. but then it can turn your butt dark-brown. no myth, happened to me..

myth or no myth...i know of a few educated pakistanis in the US who have developed vitiligo...and when asked how or why they did in fact consume milk or citrus with fish.

I have read in 'Tibb-e-nabwi' (peace be upon him) that we are not supposed to have fish and milk together. Now this book is an authentic one, (won president's award) so I know I won't dare do something, my holy Prophet (peace be upon him) asked us not to do.

As for scientific causes often catfish have been assoicated with causing severe viral infections becuase they are the water equivalent of scavegers like hyenas and will eat anything.

Catfish have been known to feed on dead creatures so they could be a reason for the myth?

Mind you back home they are common and can grow over 3 meters in length.

In India there have been cases of Catfish eating people.

They grow fat on the funeral pyre bodies....

Sick i know but it's all true.
