First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

Well this is good news, we should utilize all forms including solar, wind and building small hydel dams to reduce the load shedding effecting the country.

Breaking ceremony of first wind power project next month
ISLAMABAD - 22nd April 2011 (3 hours ago)
By APP

The ground breaking ceremony of country’s first ever, wind power project of 49.5 MW will be held in next month at Jhampir district Thatta and contractor of the project has already initiated construction work on the site.

This is a landmark in wind sector of the country achieved by Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) Energy Limited under the facilitation of Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB).

Official sources in AEDB said that several other wind projects were also in pipeline and the year 2011 would see financial close of another 4-6 projects in wind sector alone.

With this landmark project, Pakistan would enter amongst the nations utilizing wind energy for electricity generation at commercial scale, they said.

The most significant and unique feature of the Pakistan’s wind energy sector is that it would be the fastest realization of wind energy projects by any country in the world without the involvement of Government funding, subsidies or public projects.

They said Pakistan would become the first country, where the wind power projects were being initiated directly by the private sector without public money or public projects.

Pakistan now offers an investment friendly and lucrative wind energy market for the investors and equipment suppliers.

Only a few years ago, the wind energy sector of Pakistan had no attraction to the investors and suppliers. Now more than six contractors are ready to provide their services in Pakistan.

The financing of projects has also become available with IFC, ADB, OPIC and other commercial banks and financing institutions ready to finance wind power projects.

They said the alternative renewable energy based projects; especially wind projects would play an important role in the future energy mix of Pakistan. Wind energy projects are a viable option for the near future with the benefit of indigenous resource and cheap electricity as compared to conventional fossil fuel projects.

These projects are also expected to create significant number of job opportunities and possibilities of local manufacturing.

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

Good to hear that, we should invest in these more as well as solar-farming :k:

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

We are sufficiently producing electricity... but still have 3000 - 4000 MW shortage!

Why? The answer is = Losses
**
Kind of Losses
**
A) Transmission Loss

  1. Reasons: Old and low quality transmission Lines
  2. Line Joints made without following the IEEE standards
  3. Use of low quality electric equipment, switches and wires

B) Electricity Theft

  1. Kunda system
  2. Electric meter fraud
  3. Illegal connections without meters
  4. Illegal over connection with meters

Correct your transmission and distribution system and there won't be any load shading

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

the latest shortfall is 5000 MW, with the passage of time Tarbela and Mangla dams are filling up, the generation capacity is being affected, and we dont have money to buy fuel for thermal power stations, the circular debt etc. all of these factors plus the points that you have mentioned in your post we have thes situation that we currently have in Pak

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

Country faces 5,000MW electricity shortfall

Long-hour unscheduled power load shedding jitters consumers.

Sothern Punjab including Multan faces 575MW shortfall, due to which load shedding period reaches 14-hour. In Faisalabad, the load shedding duration has reached 16 hours and traders have decided to protest against the unscheduled load shedding from April 23. Traders have annouced to stage rallies from April 23 against 8-10 hour loadshedding.

Citizens in Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Khoshab, Mianwali, Bhakkar and Chiniot are also facing problems due to loadshedding.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, duration of loadshedding has reached 18 hours a day. In Sindh, urban areas are facing 6-8 hour loadshedding while rural areas are facing 12-14 hour loadshedding.

**According to sources, the country has a capacity of producing 17,000MW, but due to shortage of gas and furnace oil, thermal production has decreased by 50 percent and hydal production has also decreased by 70 percent. **

Minister for Water and Power Naveed Qamar said that loadsheding would continue this year as well and electricity shortfall would remain 2500MW to 3500MW during May and September 2011.

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

Its not 5000 MW yet, its in between 3000-4000 MW... well agree to current misery! but question what has been done to resolve it?

  • Did we make dams?
  • We die from water and we die for water, but do we store water ? we let all the water to go into sea... can't we stop and store in pockets?
  • If Holland can use wind mills for decades, did ever any Pakistani thought to use that free power?
  • Can't we use solar power?
  • Can't we use 15-25 watts energy saver and 2-6 watts LED bulbs instead of 200 watts Tungsten bulbs and 1000 watts mercury bulbs?
  • Can't restructure the electricity transmission system ?
  • Can't we stop electricity stealer?
  • Can't we ask electric equipment manufacturers to use 99.99% pure copper?

well Ali, there are much to say ... if we can simply correct what we have then we can save $ that we are willing to invest in the same system!

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

well we have been going for the thermal power for the past many years as that provides the rulers with kick backs, other wise even the advanced countries are looking to alternate sources to produce electricity as they are cheaper in the long term.

We are fortunate enough to have lot of sunshine, therefore we can use solar.

The thar corridor can be used to generate Wind energy, as well as the other coastal areas.

Thar-Coal can be used, and lastly by constructing small hydel dams...

No the rulers want to go for expensive IPP's for their kickbacks, no long term planning for the country...

and yes there's a lot of "kunda" and bijli chori going on there

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

We had sui gas, we misused and used it... we had coal and we will use it all... we had water we wasted it, we had talent we let it go! ... what we saved for next Gen?

Is there any planning and is there any researches on the alternate sources?
ans= NO

USA has Alaska full of oil, but they use Muslim oil... rings something?

All I am saying is to search and find less expensive ways to produce energy.... wind and solar are cheaper ways as compare to oil and coal energy! ...
there are many other ways to generate energy... I can bring my paper if you ask! ...

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

Unfortunately, some racist elements in KPK won't let pakistan build dams just because one of their dumb leaders took this stance some decades ago. Due to this idiotic, racist and lisaniat based stance, they were responsible for the deaths of thousands of people during the recent floods all over pakistan. These guys are so idiotic to argue with. All their arguments start and end on racism. The current load-shedding is also a gift from them. Had kalabagh dam been built, we wud have had cheap electricity, lots of industrial growth.

As you will see in the answers to this, they think they have it all figured out when a ten year old can see that pakistani needs dam and yes, kalabagh if need be.

Mind you, these are the same pathetic elements who once were waiting with flowers for indian tanks, then when they didn't show up, they waited with flowers for russian tanks and pity .... they didn't show up as well.

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

It is not the first.
One of same range is already working in Kalar Kahar, Chakwal.
Some smaller scale are too working in different areas. This too good effort.
However Solar is cheaper than wind mill, but there are some duties on the solar system.
Duties should be waved .

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

^ Its not the first thats true, even I have made small scale VAWT which is now producing 550-700 watts (hybrid solar+wind) which I installed at my home in Pakistan! since then I worked to improve the efficiency and now I have found techniques that can reduce the frictions and power loss due to mechanical resistance! ... you are in Islamabad, I wish I could get connection with Zardari or Rehman Malik to market this product! ...

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

i've read somewhere in the Pakistani Newspaper that authorities in Pakistan are considering importing electricity from India. that can solve the problem for time being.

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

They can still sale it to India.
Problem is not the production.
Problem is the high cost through furnace oil.
System is down and no one trying to improve capability.

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

will you sit whole life crying for Kalabagh dam? NO... you will find alternatives... find alternatives... we have brain... unfortunately in current rulers not a single has brain to find energy alternate!
When prime minister of a country says ar least Pakistani team went into semi final and considers it achievement, then you can see what kind if IQ level he has... just example of low mind set!

Brother we can produce electricity from garbage too ...

we are well sufficient in every thing, keep made in india within india!and give it your 120 millions crowd!

read my this posts:

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

Solar is cheaper than wind? Who will make the cheap solar cells in Pakistan, though we have yet to mass produce cheap windmills either.

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

in both the cases the consumer has to spend once in life... only have to pay maintenance costs! but on the other hand he will be saving monthly bill and avoiding any load shades!!!

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

First Wind Mill project was completed in Sindh at Jhimpir with Zorlu. Its been more than two years since that was commissioned.

Power shortfall surges to 6,000MW

Updated at: 1205 PST, Sunday, April 24, 2011
LAHORE: Power crisis in the country has broken all past records, as the Pepco and PSO tiff relating to the furnace oil supply remained unresolved and the power shortfall has peaked to as high as 6,000 megawatt, Geo News reported.

The grid stations remain closed for several hours not only in the day, but also in the night making the ordinary citizen’s life unbearable.

It is learnt that PSO has stopped 30,000 tons per day supply of furnace oil to Pepco for non-payment of their piled up dues on account of oil supply, rendering several powerhouses idle for the last four days. Pepco arrears against PSO supplies have piled up beyond Rs200 billions spurring the worst ever power crisis in the country.

The total power generation currently recorded at 9,500 megawatt, while the demand has shot up to 15,500 megawatt, thus leaving Pepco to face a shortfall of 6,000 megawatts.

Thus, the duration of electricity load shedding in the major cities like Lahore has reached to 12 hours, while in the district and Tehsil headquarters it has jumped up to 18 hours and in rural areas to as much as 20 hours.

Non-availability of electricity has not only paralyzed the routine life of the people, but it has also hit hard the industrial and commercial activities, rendering the people unemployed and adding to their woes in these hard days of blazing inflation.

All the industrial organizations in the province of Punjab including the capital city have announced to stage a protest strike on April 26 against the tormenting load shedding.
Lahorites in most parts of the city including the Basant Road, Goalmandi Township, Mochi Gate, Bandar Road, Multan Road, Shahidra and Kot Lakhpat passing sleepless nights as the electricity played hide and seek all the time.

Re: First Wind Mill Project- Ground breaking

With all this cries of power shortage and current govt behavior every time there is shortage some crisis is gifted by the govt or some other dirty work is done, this is highest (6000 MW) i wonder what will come out of this???
