If he has planned it then why are you worrying about paying ? Don’t even offer to pay , you are a student and he is full time working adult he should know better.
Tell him your food preferences and let him order for both of you so that in the end if he is not able to foot the total bill he will be one washing the dishes in the back of the restaurant and you will be on your marry home humming your favorite song .
