Althought not an issue back home.. the mere fact of marriying a cousin is considered as incest in most western countries.. for example the country i am rihaish shudah as well …australia..
how many of u are married to your first cousins? .. how does that go with u guys? .. in particular i wanted to know about all this crap about babies with abnormalities and stuff.. is this all true? what if the parents of the first cousins are also cousins :s
Its an unpopular concept in most western countries. But its no ones business if you happen to be married to a cousin! Its been discussed here many times, you can search for threads and see.
Anyway, the whole thing about having abnormal children has been proven not to be as much of a risk as previously thought. Chances of abnormalities increase the more inter-marriage there has been in the families. You can get exact percentages of risk by visiting a genetic counsellor. And you know, there is risk even in completely unrelated marriages!
I really don't see a problem- if Islam PERMITS it, its gotta be valid and logical. As for the children, there are known to be complications but Allah swt knows and does best.
When I got married, I had to get a marriage license first. In the marriage license it asked me and my to be wife if we were cousins. Am I to assume people who do marry cousins just lie and say they are not?
If it is allowed in our religion than it is acceptable.
Over the years, due to several generations of cousins marrying within the family, medical research shows that some genetic mutation may occur. Hence the increasing number of growth and development issues in our community.
But again, that is research and our religion has a different take on it.

Isn't it illegal in many US states to be married to your cousin?
Someone in my family (second cousins) got married and this is how she and her hubby are related.. the guy is her chacha from her mom's side (her mom's first cousin) and he is her first cousin from dad's side (her dad and his mom are bro/sis). The amazing thing is, they are both American/Canadian bred and had a love marriage. They were really close since childhood and eventually everyone started hinting at how much they liked each other. Both realized it soon enough and decided to get married. They make a wonderful couple mA, and are very happy! No kids yet.
my understanding is that islam allows it but suggests that all other alternatives be exhausted before considering the cousin i.e maybe because of the higher risk to children, hence the research & islamic teaching have the same take on the subject not a differing one.

We are allowed to eat beef, lamb etc, Prophet him self avoided beef(red meat). He preferred less dense meat always.
Meat wasn't his fav.
We are allowed to divorce.
But are those practices recommended ?????? answer is
NOOOOOOOO
THERE IS A DIFFERENT BETWEEN BEING ALLOWED and being desirable.
I believe there is no "law" againest cousin marriages, but its not
seen as best practice as well.
