Any horror stories? pls share.. I would love to know of any last min solutions!

Re: Finally ordered both of my lenghas!

From what I have heard it takes 2-3 months to receive your outfit. Are you getting them made from Pakistan?

Re: Finally ordered both of my lenghas!

My wedding isnt until March 2011 Inshallah and I'm currently in the process of having samples sent over to me from Pakistan. Aiming to have all the wedding clothes made by September so that I can start of thinking of the other heavy/formal clothes I need made.

You will get your outfits 2 months before the wedding. That sounds fine. It will give you enough time to get any alterations done locally if need be.

Any photos of the lengha's you have chosen? Would love to see Akh!

Re: Finally ordered both of my lenghas!

DesiB- Noo they are from the UK! I was suprised that I found and ordered both of my lenghas during my first shopping trip. I just pray the end product is worth it.

DistinctiveF- Awrite, ur getting everythin done well in advance, probably a good idea.
Yeh they do a final fitting so hopefully by then iv lost a few pounds and can get it altered. I would love to post pics but I didnt take any! Nor can I find one... Basically both are similar to a fish tail - my barat outfit is jus simply gorgeous.. its a deep red/gold lengha with bit of frill at the bottom..

Im gonna definately post pics once iv got them :D

lol …i got my valima jora a week before the day. :omg: the designer of it thought he had delivered on the day of the wedding … lol (you have to give wrong dates i swear!)

Re: Finally ordered both of my lenghas!

^Omg haha we had to do that for my bhabis walima! We only had 4 weeks to get it made, but we lied and told him we only had 3. Worked a treat.

Re: Finally ordered both of my lenghas!

Akh I'm in Uk as well. Where did you get your outfits made from? Mine are being made in Pakistan. Cant wait to see your outfits! I'm actually excited about posting mine also!

Thats perfect. I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Please do post pix! :D

Re: Finally ordered both of my lenghas!

hey first advice is NEVER EVER EVER tell the designer the EXACT date of your wedding! they tend to stall and give it to you last minute...always go back 2-3 weeks before and say the wedding is on this date and need it before that.

i went back to pakistan and got it made, and i had alot of zardosi intricate work on mine, and after bugging the guy, he said its gonna take 5 weeks, but since we said we needed it asap and kept bugging him, he made it in 3 weeks, so you need to do alot of bugging! its not that they are NOT capble of making it soon, but chances are they have alot more of bridal outfits to make and you are not their first priority....

but dont' worry you will have your outfit on time...you have a month. im not sure if you live close to the store, if you do, and are making the outfit from scratch, keep going back to the store in every step of their making process....i went back a couple days later to see the color of the dye they first put on the clothes...cause i didn't want it to be a darker/lighter shade, and then keep going back to see the dupatta being made, lehnga, shirt....who cares if they are annoyed by you, its your wedding outfit, and im sure you want it to be perfect.

also, one wrong thing that happened to my engagement lehnga was that the lehnga turned out to be too short!! not too short i mean i just couldn't wear big heels :(

so make sure the length is right and you were measured with heels on that you will be wearing on the wedding day.

my advice...bug bug bug them!

hope i helped! :)

Re: Finally ordered both of my lenghas!

Where did you order your lenghas from? A store or website? If there is a website can you please provide the link?

Re: Finally ordered both of my lenghas!

I got my lenghas done really quickly..I got my Barat lengha done in 4 weeks and my walima lengha in 4 weeks aswell!!!didnt have to do any nagging at all...my wedding InshaAllah will be in October and all my clothes are ready MashaAllah..but my mum is planning another clothes shopping spree as she wasnt with me in PK to chose my other shaadi clothes so now she wants to get some of her choice :)

Im due to be getting married in 3weeks and have had a bit of a disaster with my wedding lenga!!

Its now going to be arriving just 2 days before the wedding as the tailors ruined my lenga and have had to start production on a brand new one :-(

I really pray that they get it me on time more than anything as im feeling really skeptical with all this volcanic chaos around!!

What happened to it?? What did they do wrong???

I am getting married at the end of July and will be getting my lehnga at the end June, exactly like you. One month before and I also bought mine from a store in Toronto but its soo true, I should of never told them the real date, I should of told them a month before. But good thing that I have heard these people usually make their outfits all on time, havn't really heard from anyone I know about horror stories! Inshallah Inshallah Inshallah...

Well i ordered mine in the UK in Feb and was due to get it last week 15th May ( I never told them the real wedding date at the time which is June 12th)...

Now with my lenga its got jamawar and quite a few colours in it, although I was told before ordering that they may not be able to get the same brocade design I went ahead and ordered it as I was simply in love with it! I wanted a few colour/shade adjustments to it before they sent off my order to India and that was it, or so I thought.....

Then I got informed a couple of weeks later that they couldn't get the exact same brocade design in the same colours so I had no choice but to go with a slightyy different design in a similar shade and hoped it would turn out ok...

I happened to ring the boutique a few weeks ago to get an update on the confirmed delivery date for my lenga and i so happened to find out that they tailors in India had contacted the boutique just the day before my phone call because they were concerened the lenga was looking totally wrong!

Due to the different jamawar print and slight colour difference from the original lenga it was startin to look higgeldy piggeldy as I had had some changes made when I initially ordered and it had all clashed..and the tailors did not want to finish completing the lenga as it was that bad! Therefore they contacted the boutique owners to make sure if the lenga was to be completed.
And what did the boutique owners do? well they only went and told the tailors to carry on with the work on the lenga without even informing me!

What made me really angry was that if it had not been for my phone call I would have had a disaster for a wedding lenga and that would have ruined everything!
I was so angry and fuming with everything that I asked for my money back and got really upset...my hubby to be went and threatened the boutique owners and they agreed to make me another lenga-obviosly in accordance with the new jamawar print and colours...this only happened 2weeks ago and i got an update today that they are halfway through my new lenga and it should inshallah arrive for the 10th June which is pushing it but I suppose it could have been alot worse....

Best bit of advice is to really bug them and keep on top of things to avoid situations like mine and save yourself the headache! :-)

I'm sorry to hear you had to go through all of that, iA you will like it when it comes. Do give us an update after the wedding, even with pictures and tell us how it all turned out. :)

Try and remember that although I know these things may seem like the hardest and worst part of it all, but sometimes things don't go accordingly and its all just part of the process. At the end of it all, its your life afterwards that you have to look forward to because it will all be over in one day. I know weddings are so important but like you said, it could of been worse and it usually always can be. Its all in how you handle it. You seem to be handling it well though and Inshallah, after its all over, this will seem to be a trivial thing. I realized this after I fought sooo much to have the lehnga I wanted as well only to realize its NOT necessarily always worth it. :(

So basically, my point is to stay positive because at the end of it all, you will only have your memories so try to enjoy it as much as you can as opposed to dwelling on what could of been..you know? Think happy thoughts and relax. :) Jo hoga...to hoga. :) Wishing you all the best in these next three weeks and I hope all the rest goes perfect for you Inshallah! :)
