I was reading an article on Brazil and it was written, your social status in Brazil is determined by how white you are.

Brazil had a lot of African descendants. Slavery of African Americans was present in Brazil to a large extent. That’s why ‘light skin’ is associated with the upper-class, whereas darker skin is seen as low class.
